Converted.

Post by defscoot »

Picked up the XMAX 125 today and been out for a play, I freaking love it!

Initially it was very weird compared to the bike, it felt strange putting my feet up and flat on the boards. However, it took me about 5 minutes to get confident at low speed balance. It's awkward at first but then easier than the bike after about 10 minutes.

What I love:

1: No gears, much easier to ride.
2: Big comfy bike and looks much bigger than a 125.
3: 14.1hp which is 3 more hp than my 125. Didn't think that would make much difference until I came to a hill, it went up no problem whereas my bike would struggle.
4: Epic storage, love I have somewhere to put helmet, gloves etc at stops.
5: Much more relaxing, I felt I could enjoy the ride more.
6: Less things to do at junctions (get in right gear etc) meant I felt safer and more able to make observations in a relaxed manner.
7: Road presence because of it's size

Only one negative:

1: Seem to be getting a lot of noise at my helmet which I don't get on the 'naked' bike. Easily solved with a bigger screen or deflector.

Yes, welcome to the world of maxi-scoots! The screen is always crap /noisy generally or for your helmet. Sometimes a short screen is the answer, sometimes a taller one. I've had a lot of success with various forms of add-on deflector.

Agree on the wind noise...
The Xmax400 was noisy... Powerbronze bubble Short Sports Screen sorted that, but its only for weekend pleasure use, not needed for commuting, with the extra weather protection the std screen gave, not that it was that much in stop start traffic...

I use the max light green foam ear plugs...

You may also notice the odd stiff back or twinge... As the weight is carried thru ya arse and less taken through ya legs via the pegs on a bike...

defscoot I changed the standard screen on my 2014 250 X Max to a Yamaha sports screen.. The same screen will fit your scooter. Write up and photo here

Thanks MrGrumpy, XMax400Paul and muddyfox, looks like I need a sports screen. I'll order one asap.

I don't mind the wind pressure on me as I am used to it on my Honda 125. It's good air conditioning on hot days too!

But it appears with the xmax stock screen, the wind gets deflected right at the helmet, it's an awful buffetting sound.

Earplugs are a good idea on any bike.
