Be wary of New types of scams on autotrader etc

Post by michaelphillips »

Autotrader and other sites are seeing more scams , so please be wary of fantastic or un realistic prices for cars or scoots etc..

If you email the seller through autotrader ect say on an advert like this http://vans.autotrader.co.uk/used-vans/ ... pe/minibus" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (not sure how long this advert will be there, yet was £4200 yesterday, half its real value)

you will receive something like this : which will ask you to use google wallet saying you are protected with google wallet, yet google wallet is only available in USA at the moment and protection is only availabe for usa transactions:...
it goes something like this, as i was curious to find out :
SUPPOSED SELLER:
hi there ,
I'm glad to hear that you are interested to buy my Renault Trafic 47,000 Miles.
The van is in perfect condition, the bodywork is immaculate,no scratches, dents or hidden defects as well as the interior in excellent non-smoking condition , never been implied in any accident and it is as advertised. The van comes with full service history, HPI cleared, No finance.The only reason for selling this van so cheap is because I am involved in a military project and I will be deployed for 10 months to New Zealand to exchange experience.
I need to sell it fast before October 05 th so you can imagine that this is the only reason for selling it so low.

The price is same like on the advert £4.200 . The van is inside of Redford Cavalry Barracks, Scotland, UK in a military base garage, and in case it gets sold I will get it delivered. Let me know if you are interested, please email me back.
Regards!
EMAIL BACK FROM ME:
hi thomas, thank you for your reply, dont mean to sound silly , yet cant understand why you dont keep it, also the van is now showing as 77 miles from me on advert on autotrader at £3300 http://vans.autotrader.co.uk/used-vans/ ... pe/minibus" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

can you advise on this please, and is the v5 in your name with proof of whom you are, and do you have a HPI report, sorry for asking but been scammed once so would only be a cash buyer if i saw goods first and documents, then only would i purchase with cash, i live in kent and the advert states 77 miles from me . please advise regards michael

SELLER REPLY:
Hi ,
I just reduce the price because i need to sell it fast.
As I've said in my previous email I am in Edinburgh , Scotland in a military base, getting ready for New Zealand ( for the first time so i am very excited ). I'm doing a special training program each day and I am not allowed to get out of the unit or give calls whenever I want. The delivery will take 2 to 3 days depending on your location and it's not a problem because I can do it at no cost for you. Because it is a large transaction, we will complete the deal only using an authorized third part like Google Wallet because I already prearranged the whole process with them, using their Google Safe Pay Solutions (bank-to-bank wire transfer) for vehicles.

The money will be sent to Google Wallet, before you will receive the vehicle. So, you will deposit the payment directly into the Google Wallet agent's bank account in United Kingdom, either online or at most banks and they will hold and secure your money during the entire transaction. I repeat, they will hold and insure your money until receipt of the vehicle in good condition and will release the funds to us only after you decide to keep the vehicle and you register it, into your name. You will have an inspection period of 10 days. In this time you can check, test and inspect the vehicle. If by any reason (the vehicle has any hidden damages or is not like I describe it) you can reject the deal. In this case Google Wallet will refund you totally and they will deliver the vehicle back.
You can read more about Google Wallet by searching this link in your browser :

http://wallet.google.zrael.com/uk/how-i ... #how-works" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Please let me know your delivery details (your full name, full address and home phone number) so I can open a transaction case with Google Wallet and declare you as buyer. They will contact you with further information regarding payment and delivery.

Regards,
Thomas Morrison

WELL I LEFT IT AT THIS AS IT WAS OBVIOUS
and if you want to have a laugh, read this one which was posted on a motor home site
http://motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads ... cam.80139/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
so this is just a warning that if it sounds to be too good to be true it probably is :D
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

Seen similar on eBay. A friend was looking at a car for a ridiculously cheap price. I told him to forget it and out of curiosity I pretended I was interested. Long story short, the scammer sent me a fake eBay invoice and wanted me to pay the money to a 'Paypal intermediary' and sent me all the bank details to send it to. Reported it all to ebay, Paypal and the bank concerned but none if them ever replied.

Another time, same friend, saw another 'bargain' and asked my opinion. This time the owner claimed they were stuck in France and needed the money for an operation. Same story, send money to an intermediary. It must work for them now and then otherwise they wouldn't be doing it.
Paddle harder. I can hear banjo music!

Actually, I do love cars and motorbikes they are so precious to me, but sadly with these news update I couldn't imagine how much money I could pay off for a scam auto trader I borrowed from the payday loan. We should always be wary of individuals selling stuff door to door or even at the stores, as a number are rip-off artists. Aside from these auto traders, just like I read to the other forum Girl Scouts attempting to get people hooked on diabolically addicting cookies.
