I was really looking forward to it as I had booked it a couple of months prior. Well what a disappointment I tried really hard to find something to like about it but struggled on every aspect. Comfort, abysmal 15/20 minutes and pain in my knee. Suspension admittedly this was set by the dealer but any slight defect in the road and my spine got a good jolt, not good when you suffer with sciatica
Thank God I didn't buy one!

Thank God I didn't buy one!
Just returned from a week in Portugal. I have a scooter hire shop I always use and this year he had a Maxsym 400i for me to hire for the week (usually hire the 125 Evo).
I was really looking forward to it as I had booked it a couple of months prior. Well what a disappointment I tried really hard to find something to like about it but struggled on every aspect. Design, nothing special. Storage, nothing exceptional (less than the X10). Handling, did/does not turn in as quick as the X10. Did not push the lean angle too far being on hire but can't say it felt secure. Acceleration, nothing special, again I felt the 350 X10 was far quicker. Wind protection was nil, admittedly it was windy whilst I was there but the buffeting on head and chest caused huge discomfort. I may be doing a great disservice to owners of the Maxsym but I can honestly say I was so glad I did not purchase one even with all the minor problems I had with the X10 350, the Piaggio was certainly the better purchase.

You have to remember as a hire bike its going to have been abused and maybe adjusted.

All the scoots I have hired previously are well maintained and so has this one, only 25500 miles on it, just run in!

Don't forget both the screen and the suspension are adjustable so you would probably find the right settings for yourself if you owned one. However, screens are a very personal thing, I know. Can honestly say I found the Maxsym 400 a great ride and I've ridden the X10 too. It was very comfortable for me (I'm 6'2"). I think the X10 350 is maybe just a tad quicker off the mark initially to 30mph but then the Maxsym has it. Can't comment on storage but you are probably right as I know the Max has less than my Burgman 400. Interesting report back though. Did you have a nice holiday?
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Shocks well worn I'd say my Hexagon has 19K onit Shocks need replacing just question of do you pay £50 a shock or £150 for a top notch gas/oil shock on a £330 scoot .

Saw a review of three 400 cc scoots, the Xciting 400i, the X-10 350 and the Xmax. The Piaggio beat them both out!
If I remember correctly, the Xciting WOULD have won if it had a better windscreen form the factory. Change THAT and you have the WINNER!

Shockingly tactless review Mister Frankie!!!

Interesting video! My French is rusty - but @ 2:40 he was standing next to the Piaggio and said what sounded like "scooter's shitty..?"SkuTorr wrote:Saw a review of three 400 cc scoots, the Xciting 400i, the X-10 350 and the Xmax. The Piaggio beat them both out!

Re: Thank God I didn't buy one!
Horses for courses I must say I love my Maxsym 400 and now find myself being tempted by the 600. I found putting the shocks on their hardest setting stopped most of the jolts, and putting the screen on its highest setting (keeping in mind I am 6'2") the buffering as stopped. Interesting about comfort since I tried lots and found the max to be the most comfortable (the back rest as 3 positions and the seat is high so surprised about your knee problems) and of course I like the reviews of SYM's rock solid reliability.
Maximum respect

Hi Data
Yes, great holiday thanks. Mainly a beach holiday but used the scoot to travel to different beaches on the Algarve coast. Probably averaged 80/90km round trips on the five days I hired the scoot. In my reply post I put that it had done 25500 miles typo error 2500 miles so as I said just run in
