Big Pugs

Post by StephenC »

The official UK importer, Three Cross, hates anything over 125cc so I doubt we will ever see these, but hey-ho.

Just announced in Paris - the Peugeot Metropolis 3-wheeler will finally go on sale in the Spring. Full production details in a few weeks at the Cologne show.

They also showed a concept called Onyx. Just another style exercise probably, but one detail is interesting. The motor is Peugeot's own new 400cc teamed up with electrickery. And so puts out 61hp and 58nm. It'll do 30km (18miles) at 50kph (31mph) in electric only mode, but max range is 500km (310miles) at a rate of just 2 litres per 100km. In English, that's 138mpg for a 3-wheeled scooter weighing well over 200kgs. Impressive.

Obviously if 3X gave a damn, we could well have seen Satelis 400cc hybrids with 61hp and 138mpg on sale within a year. But no, it just won't happen, will it.

Nice try with the onyx but it misses the huge opportunity that three wheels present to recline the driver in a feet-forward, semi-enclosed `bathtub` for safety, weather protection, aerodynamics and, frankly, better use of the performance potential of the added footprint of the third wheel.

The Metropolis is interesting but is really too late to market, which doesn't really need another three wheeler, much less a UK market that doesn't even know they could have one if it wasn't for the the dismal awareness of the waste of space that is the UK importer.

Back in 2002 they were also showing the Elystar with a roof. That never made it to market either.

A 61hp 400cc scooter sounds good, but 2 wheels please and keep the electric shite, I want to carry my stuff under the seat not 50kgs of milk-float battery and I'm not interested in being a hypocritical eco twat.
