As with the Xmax, you change the Tmax filter every 12,000 miles (or 4th oil change) - it used to be every 6000 miles on earlier models I think, so presumably they decided that they did last longer. Ironically Tmax oil filters can fail prematurely by rusting through!!!. By default I normally stick to 12,000 miles, though I guess its not really that much hassle or expense to change more often. 1500 miles sounds unnecessarily frequent, though the 12000 sounds a bit long, especially if the filter is prone to rot!

Maybe, I suppose the question is does the filter last more than 1500 miles.

Some makes of filter cartridge rust very quickly, as someone previously wrote if its tightened up with a metal tool it could develop a pin hole.
Change it for that reason alone.

It has a built in mesh filter too Meldrew, when I changed the oil the mesh was absolutely clean, no sign of any crud at all.

Best thing since sliced bread you will be surprised how much fine mettle can be pulled out by one of these.

Honda say to change the oil in the Helix every 1000/1100/1200 miles (depending on which edition of the service manual you have). I have always changed it at 1000 miles because Soichiro says so, and it only has a gauze strainer for filtration duties.

Were they were fitted with a replaceable filter that cost £12 I wouldn't hesitate to replace it every year. There might well be no need, but it'd definitely do no harm and for twelve quid - who cares?

Next year it will need changing again but is it really worth putting a new filter on too? Filters last way more that 1500 miles. What's the perceived knowledge chaps?
If that’s your thinking, why not leave the oil in for two years too? If a jobs worth bodging, it’s worth bodging properly.

In 17 years of owning piaggio scooters I’ve never had the filter rust through , on my current gts300 I change the filter every 2 years as It tends to do low mileage , Oil gets change yearly .
