Steve Zodiac and Venus had flying scooters (which I'm sure were Maxi Scooters) in Fireball XL5, ages before Thunderbirds...pikey wrote:Only TV21 magazine I was more into Thunderbirds still waiting for the hover scoot to be invented

Re: Maxi Scoots - The History of
Modern maxi`s , (which I would classify as 250 cc and over with CVT transmission.) I think originated with the Honda CH & CN models. If memory serves me, Yamaha brought out the 250 Majesty, and Honda the 250 Foresight about 1997, Suzuki entered the fray in1999 with the 250 Burgman, soon followed by the 400cc model. However, larger engine scoots have been around since the 1950`s, Maicoletta, Velocette, BSA/Triumph, and D.K.R. all made large (for the time) engine scooters.

Sorry Meldrew, I should have been clearer. I agree with what you are saying.
I was adding to Hexatony's other point that "larger engine scoots have been around since the 1950`s" and should have quoted it. The Germans were producing a 1500cc step through back in the 1890's.

I remember when the Yamaha Majesty 250 came out in 1996 http://www.bikepics.com/pictures/1965356/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. It seemed to be when the Maxi's really took off as being really popular. It was the biggest selling scooter in Italy for a few years in a row from memory. I nearly bought a new one in Australia in about 1998, but eneded up spending my money on something else.

I hope you've got your own petrol tanker to follow you around! Fuel consumption on those could be horrendous!pikey wrote:I'm picking up a 2 stroke hexagon 180 tomorrow
