Re: Honda electric scooter with swappable battery
Having swappable battery infrastructure would see a huge take-up in electric bikes.
Range is by far the biggest barrier for potential new buyers.

Re: Honda electric scooter with swappable battery
This idea has been proposed by several others but there is no chance of widespread battery swapping in the UK because the number of customers would never justify the outlay. If a large authority such as transport for London were to sponsor it something might work in the city but elsewhere its not practical. Sadly the biggest barrier in the UK is a broader population who wouldn't be seen dead on two wheels, petrol or electric, although of course there is a strong group of ( self?) righteous pedalers.

In any event, there might be battery swapping stations in the most urban areas, but the chances of there being any close to you if you are in the suburbs or the sticks are probably minimal!

Owning ‘half a bike’ might interest some but I wouldn't touch a loaned battery, - theres too few outlets for battery replacement around the country even now.
Pretty sure that I wont live long enough to see a well supported e-bike or scoot.

It relies on someone making the infrastructure available to support. Be that either the state or private individuals is more of an ideology question, but someone needs to.

Yes they do worry me. Young people riding at well above the 15 mph limit for electric bicycles and flying on and off pavements at will. No protective gear, not even a cycle helmet in many cases. Its only a matter of time before they kill themselves or a pedestrian then there will be an outcry. In my local suburban area there doesn't seem to be any enforcement action either by police or by responsible parents. As a kid I was a bit of a terror myself on a scooter but thank goodness they never had motors then!Funkycowie wrote: Sun Aug 14, 2022 10:02 pm It would be safer than those escooters people ride about on.

Sussex police are seizing around 90 per month.roadster wrote: Thu Aug 18, 2022 10:05 amYes they do worry me. It's like shooting fish in a barrel for the police.
Even if they haven't been illegally derestricted there are no e-scooter hire trials in Sussex, hence every one they see is illegal to ride on the road (or pavement.)
I'd imagine that the impound yard GP is hotly contested!

Re: Honda electric scooter with swappable battery
I'm never sure why e-scooters should be more dangerous than electric bikes.....but kids do ride the e-scooters like maniacs. Fortunately we don't get too many up here, but when I visit Esssex, its madness at school throwing out time. Not sure whether to be impressed or horrified when I saw THREE kids on one e-scooter! The scooters must have some serious grunt!
