If the Joyride is so good why did you buy another two scooters?
(both of which are less suited to your preference for agility)

 Just horses for course Globs. I've ridden so many different scoots now of all sizes and coming from the big bike world, I've really been surprised at how good most of them are. Your X10 is a superb bike and I rate it highly. I tend to think that as it gets faster and faster, with more and more power coming from the engine, you may change your mind a little as you get used to that power and more used to handling the beast. You will see increasing advantages over your smaller bikes especially on longer journeys. Although I found the X10 very lightweight because I come from riding much heavier bikes. I found the 330cc motor too lightweight in it's power delivery, and handling a bit too flighty and bumpy at speed. But it went just as it's designed to. Very good in fact. However, my Burgman or the Sym 400 are heavier than your X10, and it is I found, much more stable at high speeds than the X10. It has a much greater spread of torque which comes in much earlier. But you may not notice that if you haven't had much Burgman 400 or Sym 400 saddle time. The Burgman is very relaxed at speed with a plentiful and relaxed power delivery, as is the Sym 400. As I have a commitment to a long two up trip to Birmingham and back each month (near 400 miles) along with numerous other lengthy rides, the Burgman suits me. But you clearly don't need that easy power delivery at speed of the 400cc Burgman motor. So for you, the X10 or even your 171cc Sym is fine. Great bikes. But neither would be suitable for how I ride or the loads I carry. Again it's the horses for course thing and no different to how or why we buy different cars. Incidentally, I used to do the same trip to Birmingham on my DL1000GT. It was agonising in the heavy traffic. It was difficult to filter due to the side cases making the width of the bike massive. Yet I had to have the top box and side cases for my laptop, clothing and other equipment etc. All of which now fits under the seat of the Burgman and in the front glove boxes. The Burgman scores massively over the DL1000 and I still travel at more or less the same speed but use half the fuel doing the trip. It's a win win situation and I have to say much more fun than the DL1000GT. Scoots are where it at!
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

It's a good question, I guess I just wanted to make sure I was right ;).

Just this morning I carried the wife, a 10kg cabin bag (on the flat floor) and lots of gear in the topbox and under the seat 48km to Stanstead airport in perfect comfort, then carried me and all her bike gear back again and still have 5 fuel bars from the full 7 after 96km.
I cruised at a smooth 7,500 RPM doing enough speed to catch up with the lorries and pass them, a few cars overtook yes but they overtake if I'm doing 70+ on the X10 anyway - so what's the difference?

It's fun having a choice of bike but there is something that connects you more to the journey in a small bike :D.
I still didn't get to use full throttle either, although I got near at one traffic light.

Scooters seem to be a well hidden secret. Rode past someone on the other side of the road today on a bike faffing with his gears as the car in front stopped to let someone out. As I went past watching him playing 'find the neutral' I was thinking what on earth I'd want manual gears for, as well as no storage space and wet feet. It would have to be a pretty special bike to make me want to ride it, and then probably only for kicks.

Globs, +1 on that mate! But can't think of any bike at the moment I'd want to ride anyway. It's got to be a scoot!

OK Spaceprobe youve had the sym long enough now to hopefully answer my questions . How good is it 2 up and does it seriously effect its balance and fuel economy .How are you finding the standard fitted maxxis tyres . Does the stand ground out far too easy . Tank range ?. 0-60 ? How fast does it go when you are laying flat on the seat for the best aero dynamic effects . cheers
