Can a key left in the ignition, drain battery?

many batteries can be rejuvenated back to life using a pulse charger, yet i cant see that because you have had the battery for such a small time that the plates would need the pulse charger, will probably need a good 24 hrs on a trickle charger
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.
