Re: Burgman 650 TEST!
I do agree with Meldrew here , a few years back I had a 250 bike for 6 months and it was a nightmare on motorways. if you want to do any out of town travel and to feel safe I do think a 400 is the minimum. Fingers crossed for your test

Re: Burgman 650 TEST!
For once I agree with Meldrew.....M-ways and small scoots are a bad mixture, with headwinds and hills bringing your top speed down drastically, and the wakes and vortices off trucks (especially car transporters!) can be very scary and you may not have enough power to get past them easily. On the other hand, I guess that on the M25 at rush hour, a top speed of 40 may be more than enough for the traffic conditions!!!!

Suck it up... what is the difference in cost now than doing it half way and doing it again? Even consider hiring to get the job done...

Just to add if you do test on 125 you still have to do the theory again to do bigger test

Re: Burgman 650 TEST!
You know Solo I have been reading the replies and thought you may be getting a bit miffed because people are not saying what you want to hear. On this site we have the odd spat but the guys on here are the kindest, most helpful and caring that I have ever come across on a forum. Lots of them are given you similar advice which I think reflects their concern. Many of us have been around bikes and scooters for too long and we know that for versatility and safety you are pushing it with a 125. So do reflect on what people are saying its all coming from a good place and enjoy your time on two wheels. Now I have gone up to a 600 I would not even contemplate going back to a 400. take care and think about it carefully.

Another vote for not being restricted to the 125 licence. You will regret it and the motorways will be hell on a longish journey, you won't have the power to safely overtake and will be very vulnerable to wind.
Save up, do the proper test (auto if you like) and buy my Xevo for a pittance when I sell it next year

Re: Burgman 650 TEST!
It's great that you believe your 125 is more than adequate for what you use it for and that maybe explains why you haven't really focussed on passing your test. Passing a motorcycle licence isn't just about getting a piece of paper, throwing away your 'L' plates and being allowed to ride - with or without a pillion - on Motorways. It's more to do with teaching you how to read 'the road', to ride safely and defensively and it may even save your life! It's a shame it's so damn expensive but try to see it as a fun and exciting investment on something you already enjoy doing!
You will also find that there are bigger and better wheels available for the same money you pay for a 125cc
Good luck Mister SOLO.

Off Topic

The gov website will not let me book a light license test it says i am not allowed for some reason so i may have no choose but to take the Medium or Direct access test.
I know where your coming from with HGV, i was on duel carriageway with wind and was over taking a lorry that was doing 60mph and i was doing 75mph creeping to 80mph just before rev limiter just to over take the dam thing and it was not a quick over take but was in my eyes comfortable over take but toke a long time and with the 125 limited power it had to be timed just right lol, thing is even with a powerful bike, i don't like speed as i am a wuss, 75-80mph is my max mental tolerance.
I test rode my mates bandit 600 ( private road ) and i toke it up to 80mph that was my limit at which i could take everything in at once at that speed, i opened it up to 90mph and just couldn't mentally hold it, i don't know why, so in that view i would only want a bike that can do 70- 80mph at the end of the day as i am not as guy that likes high speed, hope people can see what i mean there unless i just sound stupid and silly ?
but in the 13 years i been riding iv picked up and know how to ''read the road'' also i learned how to '' read the bend '' i don't like been big headed but i do call my self a decent and good rider at beyond learner level.
I do want a full Cc license at end of the day if i can afford it, i think i would be more then happy with a 250 X9 or if there was a cheap one maybe a 650 burgman but the servicing cost i been told is high and does put me off.
I am going to be visiting Ridesafe in Bradford tomorrow to visit the riding instructor and chat with him about an assessment ride and to work out the details of my test, hopefully i can get one booked and get going.
I hope i can get my test done this year! and put an end to my Years of been on L-plates.
Think if i pass a celebration is in order lol!

Re: Burgman 650 TEST!
I only have an auto bike licence and it does me fine, I don't intend to get a motorbike and don't think I ever will.
I did my test on my X9 125 quite a few years back
