For me it's not about the actual engine as an oil change for me is a couple of pounds and 15 minutes, it's about being sucked into a £100 bill and hours going to a dealer and back.
Therefore the longer the interval the better
.
BTW Synthetic oil (useless for running in!) lasts considerably longer than mineral or cracked (semi-synth) due to the fact that synthetic oil is pure oil, whereas mineral oil/semi is thin oil mixed with plastic thickeners - and the plastic gets shredded into varnish.
