SH300 Givi Air flow, a mixed review...

Post by Taipan »

Fitted a Givi Air Flow to my Sh300 at the weekend and had my first ride on it yesterday. I set the screen about halfway and off I went. Instantly noticed the better weather protection compared to the Puig City Touring screen I did have on there. 8-) But I also noticed quite a bit of light glaring back at me from the upper screen. This is where the headlight beam reflects back to you by bouncing off the lower part of the upper screen. As annoying as it was I thought I'd get used to it so chose to try and ignore it. Then last night I rode it home in the dark. Bloody thing really glares back at you. I tried it at all different heights but none cured it. I went home via some back roads which are unlit. On roads like this you can see the whole outer bead of the screen is lit up where it captures the light so you have this sort of lit up square in front of you. Looks like its a fecking Tron bike! :? Also noticed the headlight on the Sh300 is a bit crap too. It might want adjusting but I'm worried I'll get even more glare off the screen!

How do you guys get on with yours? Do you just get used to it?

The glare doesn't bother me at all and never has.

So you see it but it doesn't bother you? That's a relief that there is hope I'll get used to it!

I'd go so far as to say I actually like it and when I first fitted it I thought it was a pretty cool design feature!

Try running a strip of gaffer tape along the edge of the bottom of the screen and folded onto the front and back to stop the light using the screen like fibre optics. icon_wink-.gif Wales.gif

I think that's what i'll have to do. Its a great screen and I like the being able to adjust it on the move - literally! But the glare is bloody awful at night. I'm not noticing it any more during the day though so maybe i'll get used to it at night too? But if I had ridden a Sh300 in the dark with one of these fitted I very much doubt I'd have bought one tbh.

I tried the black tape but it didn't eliminate the glare completely on my SH300.

So I took it to a place that works with plastics and they cut down the top section to just where I wanted it AND they put a nice curve and bezel on it as well.

After that it was much much better, no glare and I could have it lower to get air in the face if I wanted, higher so I could just see over and it could go a bit higher still in wet weather.

I have one fitted on my Burgman 400 and I can't say I'm getting this glare/reflection everyone is talking about. I do have mine set quite low so I'm just looking over the top.

It gives excellent weather protection though..

Edit: Had my first real ride in the dark since modifying the headlamps on the burgman the other night. I was most pleased with the results. The standard light lights up the road ahead and extra light seems to light up the road just in front of the scooter about 10Ft makes it a lot easier to see pot hole or any other obstacle.

On teh SH300 teh top airflow screen sit sjust above and forward of the headlight and ths is why it picks up the reflection. It suspect its mounted higher and further back from teh headlight on a burgman.

FWIW, i dont notice the glare in teh daylight any more and its bothering me less of a night too. On the rare occasions i go down the unlit back roads its bloody dire though. As teh weather protection is so good i'll live with it.

A great screen works very well in all weather and mine has a black coating around the bottom edge of the screen no problem in the dark?
