Aprilia SR Max 125...3 weeks in

Post by KEEFYBEE »

Well I've put just over 600 miles in on the new wheels and lets just say after quite a serious snag within 2 days a wide grin is pretty much etched on my face. Lets get to the snag first, speedo sensor drive failure within 70 miles of my ownership, it happens, but had to wait nearly 10 days due to non availability of said part was sorted last Saturday under warranty so no money involved. Important bits now. Yes this machine is really the Gilera Nexus in different 'clothes' and a few cosmetic changes, I've got the Red Black and Silver model and in my opinion looks quite natty.

Peformance: Has the same water cooled Leader engine as in the XEvo (my previous machine), but has fuel injection as an added bonus. I wasn't disappointed, its quite sprightly on the lights drag race, had a max of 70 mph out of it so far. It has good mid-range ,30-50 mph done rather rapidly. 8/10

Comfort: The seat is a large comfy stepped number, the riding position being slightly higher than the XEvo (810 mm against 780 mm), so it feels a little more 'on' than 'in', but its comfortable all the same. The windscreen is adjustable to 3 settings which it is currently set at its lowest , but I don't seem to have an issue with any wind buffeting, so its a another 8/10.

Storage : Ok , I've been spoit for the last 5 years with 56 litres of storage in the XEvo. No boot on the Max but a bigger underseat are of I'd say around 40 litres, oh and a tiny excuse of a cubby hole on the l/h side of the dash. We have to remember its a sport orientated machine, so a reasonable 6/10.

Economy: Probably a trump card for the Max, it has the biggest fuel tank of any maxi scooter currently on the market (15 litres) and after covering 210 miles or so in each of the last 3 weeks I was using a litre every 20 miles. My guess it will work out at around 90 mpg. I have put just under 11 litres back in on the fill ups, which to me is a vast improvement on the carbed XEvo which I was probably getting 65-70 mpg near the end of its life, a good 8/10 .

Looks: A far better looking machine than my previous XEvo, its very bike-like on frontal view, which is probably why a lot of crotch-rocket riders give you the nod when approaching from the opposite direction. a nice tapered off back end as well, another good 8/10

Overall: I like.......

Pics wise my phone is a bag of shite for photos, but good as a phone so I'll have to dig my digital camera out and get it linked up soon.
