an 400 type s
Just seen a lovely bright red burgman type S on ebay, quite sporty, has anyone any imfo on them, are they an import or a uk scoot, also being an 06 model could they suffer the dreaded clutch problem associated with burger 400s??????
Im not a gynecologist, but I dont mind taking a look.

Hi halfabusa, If it's what I think you are referring to, that's a normal 2007+ engine/transmission 'turbine effect' whistle as you are travelling on lighter throttle at lower speeds. It goes up and down with the engine revs right? It is I believe a combination of variator and belt noise. I've not ridden a 2007+ that doesn't make that mild turbine jet engine whistling noise most noticeable when riding in traffic at speeds under 40mph. I've been looking for the afterburner!!halfabusa wrote:never say nevermine is 2011 model and clutch whines after light throttle usage
The '06' Burgman S is a lovely bike but agree with Meldrew on everything he says. I changed an engine on one a few months ago for someone. It was a complete dodle. Nice bikes.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

hi Data, no that's not it, it's the whine that i hear on the low revs when clutch biting point is reached, and it goes away as soon as the gear engages. It only happens after repeated slow starts. Following your method of revving the engine a few seconds with brakes on has fixed it temporarily. Also high speed riding on motorways fix it too. It did come back on several occasions though and it's certainly not the turbo-like nice sound that i used to love on the burgman 650.
In fact I'm still waiting for a free time of yours when we can do a cleanup on the clutch bell

I saw an S Burgman for sale and it looked so good in the red. Went back to buy and it had gone - I was gutted. I think they are very nice looking machines. I was told that they were a US model, how true that is I don't know.

Hi Gerard, yes I'm sure you are right. I think the ones over here are imports from the States, but I stand to be corrected of course if anyone has further info. But mechanically they are identical to the standard pre-07 models that have fuel injection so no worries about spares.

Re: an 400 type s
probably the same one I was looking at Ged, the type S has side reflectors on the forks so I also suspect a usa import.
