Another member mentioned frequent oil changes and high oil consumption for the Yamaha single cylinder engines. Is this correct ?

Re: Yamaha engines
In my experience of the 250 engine, oil consumption isn't a problem. I see to recall that some early Maj handbooks recommend quite frequent oil changes (1500-2000 miles or something), but later models have longer intervals. There isn't an oil filter, so this might account for relatively short changing intervalsmacp wrote:Happy easter all

Thanks yes that explains it and like you say I believe the 2004 on bikes come with a traditional oil filter rather than a gauze.MrGrumpy wrote:In my experience of the 250 engine, oil consumption isn't a problem. Re: Yamaha engines
the maj 250 (mk1) I've just sold, did 850 miles over a long weekend, mostly at 60-65mph, in france around the 500 mile mark, I topped up the oil, as it was near the low level, but not dry, the engine had done 10k miles at that time, so not bad under the circ's, an oil change on mk1 majestys is recommended at every 2k, but theres no paper filter just gauze to clean out, and the oil capacity is only 1.2 ltrs,so doesnt really break the bank. A lovely sweet engine though, I was really impressed, so much, I kept it for a month.

Im not a gynecologist, but I dont mind taking a look.

Yep the 250's need a chnage every 1750 miles. Just like the Honda Foresight/Piaggio X9 250SL
