I'm looking to replace my MK3 tmax looking for something a little lighter but with 2 up comfort on shortish trips the Beverly looks interesting anyone using Beverly for 2up or any other ideas as can't look around dealer's at moment

Hmmm. I'm not sure the Bev would meet your needs, although it goes well. Its quite a compact beast, though feels rather heavier than it is (its somewhat top heavy). You'd seriously miss the Tmax's handling & suspension as well - the Bev really didn't impress me in that area, and I found it agony to ride more than a 10 miles or so (but maybe that's just me!).

As for weight, its tricky. Whilst the Tmax is of course a full 200kg or so, its actually quite light for a big maxi-scoot, and most 400 scoots are almost the same weight! I remember that the Maj 400 was exactly the same weight! And of course, the Tmax's weight is very low down so its relatively easy to manage (though stopping any 200kg scoot from falling over is well nigh impossible).

A couple of possibilities - some of the newer 300/350s might suit - look at new Forza 350 or Xmax 300. Or I'm sure that Data will along shortly to proclaim the virtues of the 300cc Vespas! I've no experience with any Vespa (let alone 2 up!), but something low and light like that might work.

according to google, there is approx 20 kgs or a sack of potatoes in it! haven't rode a tmax but owned a beverly 350 for 3 years and did a 2000 mile european trip 2 up on it. I was younger and stupider back then. My better half who is a shade under 6ft legs are a tad long for long trips, she endured it, but her hips were pushed out too much causing pain. I on the other hand had no issues excuse to buy a goldwing then?


Agree with MrGrumpy , it will definitely be a step down in suspension, braking etc. You may aswell sit on one and see if it fits your ergos. The bevs engine is great though.

Depends on how much 2-up riding you are planning on doing and how short/long your pillions legs are. you could go anywhere from a vespa 300 which is smaller and lighter still to a cruiser style to the maj/burgers which are comfy as but heavier

Forza is a good bike 2 up, my lass loved being on the back my only problem is severe coccyx pain so i am in agony even sitting on a cloud so i am stuck until a miracle bike shows up.

Reluctantly I have come to the same conclusion. Max and I will part ways after fourteen years of excellent biking. Looked at all that was on offer which would be lighter, have enough power-for an ol' fellah- and a bit of a 'wow' factor. Sadly all looked a bit dull and I reckoned I'd be comparing them with Max.
It was my wife that jolted me from my malaise saying 'maybe you need to look at something different'. So I did. Vespas! They looked similar to what I rode in the '50s along the Cote d'Azure and now came with some oomph and real brakes. Somewhat enthused, I read road tests, reviews and Data's' posts . Had a closer look at what was on offer-so many variations on a theme- and thought 'why not go for the most outrageous ?' So I bit the bullet, found a dealer who was happy to take an elderly TMAX in PE and am awaiting delivery of a Sei Giorni. At the moment it is sitting aboard a container ship approaching Auckland Harbour.
I'll let you know how we get on.

Replacement,hi I have my SYM Citycom 300 2011 its a fantastic scoot and will take 2 people in comfort me being 6ft 1 ,it has a large pillion seat and proper drop down footpegs.it is in nearly mint condition and has 10700 miles on it from new by me.all up to date with the servicing as well.Its every bit as good as the honda sh300 and has never let me down or needed anything other than a brake switch at £8.I will take £1200 for it.

I like the Vespa my ,Xevo goes very well for a 250 , I got it just before lock down last year with the intention of using it today for a trip to Penmacheno near betsy coed as they say as I got fed up of going up and down a 6 speed box at every roundabout on my GS 500 .
This weekend would have been the 60th Dragon Rally .
