Scooter Shortage!

Post by OldEssexman »

I am looking to replace my 650 Burgman in the next few months and want to have a look at a T Max as a possible new buy. Finding myself near a Yamaha main dealer yesterday I thought I would pop in and have a look. The guy there said no, they don't have any T Max in stock and won't be getting any unti next July at the earliest, more likely October!! He said this was all to do with the pandemic and the factory being busy with other models.
Looks like T Max is off my list!

It always amazes me how hard bike (& car) makers manage to make actually buying their products!
btw sometimes dealers with brand new bikes/scoots in stock will advertise them on biketrader (as well as S/H ones).

The other option is to go nearly new.

Try buying in France. As a big market, I bet there's some to be had there.

Whereas here, with sales most likely in double figures annually, why bother bringing over stock that might sit for ages?

I'm definitely not a subscriber to the dealer=stealer view. There are great dealers around, and worth supporting if they are local to you.

However, some are simply lazy and inattentive. Some have the view that if they have old stock to shift they'll try to sway genuine buyers away from their intended purchase.

This is done with the misguided view that they will buy something from them that takes less effort, that they have in stock, and are willing to move on at a discount.

I've encountered this myself, admittedly some time ago, and with a dealer that went down the financial shit-chute (surprise, surprise.)

Funnily enough, I was trying to buy a new TMax at the time, and found myself outside the dealer's door with the cash in my pocket wondering what the f*** just happened!

My advice is not to accept that there's no Tmaxes available. Find another dealer and ask them to get you one. I know full well that Onthewheel near me have one in stock because I have seen it and touched it.

If your dealer wants your business they'll get one from another dealer.

8-)
