Home again!

Post by Snail »

Hi all, just to say we are back from our 4 month tour of Europe in the motor Home, and looking forward to getting the sh300 out of the garage, after standing for 4 months it started 3rd press of the starter
Hope you all had a good summer will read through now to catch up

One thing I might add, while we sat overlooking Ammoranches d day beach, the thought came to me this might be a good scooter adventure for next june as it will be the 75th anniversary, maybe the last big one when veterans are still alive?
Poole to Cherbourg, or Portsmouth Caen, or one way out and other way back? campsite for a week? Or b and b, ECT, Bayeaux is only ten miles in land, just thoughts in my head at the moment

I was only thinking about you today, wondering if you were back :) We are considering a weekday trip to RAF Cosford towards the end of September, if you are interested?

Glad you had a good tour season, love to hear more over a brew

Same discussion took place when sat at Pegasus Bridge in June with ESMCC.
We actually based ourselves outskirts of Bayeaux.

We crossed Newhaven-Dieppe as it was 'crack of a sparrows fart' start so allowing 4 hours shut eye before arrival.

Def' be a good trip & if I'm already in France I'll ride from where ever to join the celebrations.

In the immortal words of Peters and Lee "Welcome home"
Hope your idea of a June trip to France becomes reality. I would fancy the B&B option or Gite hire.

Ah Muddyfox. Yes that's an idea. If a bunch of us rented a Gite it would be cheaper than B&B or hotel, would it not?
I wonder if they will have shafted us Brits good and proper by then, having got out of the EU?

Just a thought on potential route for 2019, take a gander at Portsmouth to Le Havre (out) and Caen to Portsmouth (back).

It gives you 8 hours kip on the way over and gives a full day to explore from the off. If you route East to West along D-Day area it puts you close to Pegasus Bridge as the start point and gives a nice ride (free for bikes) over the Pont de Normandie.

Admittedly Newhaven to Dieppe is slightly cheaper, but you don't get full 8 hours and it dumps you further East and in the middle of the night!!

If you're looking at budget overnight and willing to share, there's a budget Accor hotel with triple room near Caen ring road, circa £35 a night split three ways.
