Hi all,
Got the 16,000 mile service on the Silverwing coming up. Seems it’s a big one - spark plugs, valve clearance check, clutch plate inspection, oil & filters, and the drive belt.
I’m not mechanically minded so looking for recommendations on where to take it in Surrey & Sussex.
Thanks,
Pete.

If you are not mechanically minded and do not have the tools, you should only use a Honda service agent. I have no idea what the charge would be, I only ever visit the dealer for spares or to buy a bike.

Why only use a main dealer? Unless its under warranty?

Being a 2009 bike, any good mechanic can do it for less than main dealer prices. Always worth ringing dealer for price though for comparison.

What Meldrew (hi bud) said ^^^^^ if you were nearer I'd say bring it to mine, but a 400 mile round trip would make it an expensive free service.
As an aside I've as yet to hear of anyone who has needed valves reshimming, if your performance is good & you can't hear them rattling, I'd say leave well enough alone

...but there's the nub of the question - do anyone know a good mechanic and how does a numpty like me tell??? A main dealer MIGHT be the best, but sometimes they aren't much cop either! I have an independent workshop up here that I trust, but that's no help to someone living in Surrey.mottza wrote:Being a 2009 bike, any good mechanic can do it for less than main dealer prices. 21stMoto Swanley Kent display their costs on the wall (nice honest approach)
SW 16K service will cost you £600. You can sometimes barter between dealerships for £20 odd.
Further from London cheaper hourly rate
I agree with Meldrew about basics use the Manuel but Berns offer generous and make a weekend away of it help, watch, learn pay for consumables and the evenings beers n grub jobs a good un

Could try Beakys in Beare Green (A24) if it's close enough.

Re: Silverwing 16,000 mile service
Gedge Honda dealer Hastings has my vote at the moment, they really helped out a friend when she needed it. The bikes they have provided have been up to a high standard, and you should get a reasonable charge for the work as its out of London.
I did my own 16000 mile service, the belt and rollers where still serviceable, so where the plugs, air filter.
(All changed as I had them)
Of all things the handbrake pads where worn out, front and rear pads needed changing.

Thanks for all the replies folks. Some food for thought there.
Interesting that the Swanley place is £600.
An independent place in Crawley has quoted me £800.
