Too many damned hedges

Riding country roads is nice but you can't see a damned thing - at least in Southern England. It's like travelling in a tunnel with 10 foot walls- Lovely countryside and views on either side but you won't see any of it. If it's a nice windy road you have the added problem of not being able to see round the corners, so you crawl along with eyes glued ahead to anticipate on coming traffic.

How different in Germany or on other European roads. I was in the Taunus area north of Frankfurt last summer and had some glorious riding. Barely a hedge anywhere to obscure the views of beautiful rolling countryside.

Anyone else feel my frustration?

Alan

They're an historic feature of our landscape down here - known as Cornish Hedges, although most people would call them walls with vegetation. Sunken lanes are everywhere here - and also just over the Channel in Brittany, of course. They have a fascinating history - http://www.cornishhedges.co.uk/

You'll have to move oop North! Not that dry stone walls are easier to see through of course, but the landscape are normally much more open. My brother lives in Hemel Hempstead and the scenery between the towns is (probably) very nice - if you could see it through the trees and hedges!

At least you're that bit higher on a bike, so you can see more than the cars, except the socking great 4x4s
