Modern headlights = glare

Post by Bluebottle »

This has been mentioned many times on here and other forums and by pretty much everybody I know.
Hopefully something will get done now that the authourities have agreed to talk about it and motoring organisations are on-side.

New cars being sold with headlights that dazzle is just ridiculous, it is bad enough with the number of misaligned lights on the road and numpties putting high power “upgrades” into lenses that aren’t made for them and focus the light in the wrong place

Right, I feel better now, carry on

According to a mate that does mot's any vehicle that was
not supplied with led or other high intensity systems will
fail a MOT, I don't know when this comes into force but
it is iminent. Cars fitted with theses systems have aming
dipping and self leveling systems to keep from dazzeling
drivers but after market ones don't.
The led's on my scooter don't have anything like that but
have a sharp cut off on the right, main beam does not
seem to raise the beam much if any but fills in the gaps

Most of our night time driving is in town or motorways, so we have the lights set right down and just flick the switch on country lanes. The speed my wife drives in the dark, she could use a candle.

When ever the car goes for MOT it always comes back with the lights set
what to me is to high and I always run with them set down one or two
clicks, I think I am right but please set me right if not that it is only a
few years since they started failing lights that were set to low befor
they could only fail for being to high, I feel things have got worse since then.

The LED headlights on the Africa Twin are amazing both for being seen and for seeing. I bought auxiliary lights for it but never use them as they just aren't needed.

As for dazzle from headlights, yeah get that a lot, especially from newer suv type vehicles that seem to aim the lights higher as standard. What I hate more is the lights that appear blue from a distance and make you think there is plod about....
