Buyers guide 650

Going to have a look at a 650 Burgman, anything specific I should be looking at?

Don't get a 2004/5 early model, the transmissions are weak.
They revised it after that year.
I've owned a 2004, 2006 and a 2008 Burgman 650 and also test rode the latest model, I love them! :)
The 2008 model I owned also had a software change where the transmission changed up and down much more and kept the engine in the power band.
It made the Power Button redundant, but I much preferred the older lazy nature of the 2006 scoot and using the power button when needed.
The latest model has gone back to a similar software where the engine is much more lower revving, which was done to improve the economy.

My original first in Wales 2nd sold in the UK is still going strong with well over 100,000 miles on it. The only thing to ever go wrong was the day i sold it,
Traded in against a new one with 38,000 in two years. The guy who now has it bought that week and the steering lock went duff, dealer changed it as there was a recall to change them, the steering lock pin could work loose and jam the steering when on the move :o The guy who bought it does not do any work himself on it, always dealer serviced on time.....could have bought at least three more just on the money he has paid out in service costs :lol:

Unsure if you are looking at new or secondhand,i am on 650 number 5,pre 2013 models suffered with wheel corrosion,the wheels on two of my Burgers were sorted out and under warranty,pre 2013 are thirsty beasts if you are heavy handed on the throttle,i had a rectifier go on one again sorted under warranty,they have all been servived when scheduled,other than what i have mentined no other problems.I now own a 2016 model,wheels are now painted black and as far as i know no issues with wheels,engine is still as good as ever and has been fiddled about with to make it far more economical,pre 2013 seem to be a fair old wedge of money in dealers still,some dealers are doing deals on pre reg models which come in White,Black or Grey(Matt Finish)

If you're getting on a bit,check out the weight,ok when on the move,can be a big old lump to wheel about in a confined space,i do know of a 2013 model for sale with 7k miles,after market exhaust,he's in love with his Africa Twin and doesn't use the Burgman.

Be aware of the shit 3500 mile service period on the 650 makes it expensive to run if you use a dealer,my 5,000 mile 2016 650 showing signs of corrosion on exposed fasteners and exhaust and my front discs have just been replaced due to a rattle/vibration the heated grips have been replaced and still not very good,I get 45-65 mpg depending how I ride and I do love it,honest lol.
