Thought i'd register as I've been 'lurking' awhile...

Thank you to Owner & mods for this site - very helpful.

So every year I go to NEC show, and over the last few years me and me bro Inky been looking more and more at Burgers.. this despite being avid (rabid) VStrom riders. Lord knows what my VSRI mates are going to say....
I also know that the Burgman 650 is the chosen ride of Goose, the Boss @ York Suzuki - a man who could choose any bike...

I've jumped straight in by buying a very low mileage (only 500) 2014 650. and I love it. I caught train up from Kent to Dundee last Saturday and rode it straight home - this more than doubled the mileage in one hit, then added another 350 on BH Monday using it to go to BSB @ Cadwell Park. Will be off to Assen on it at the end of this month..

It's a surprisingly zippy ride, very comfortable (expected) and economy is reasonable (about 56mpg). luggage space is brilliant.

immediate mods are top box rack (bummer having to buy a panel to cover the hole left by backrest removal), and of course RAM mount for twatnav. Givi screen on order too.

Welcome - another ex Vstrom rider here. The mpg is so so so nice after the DL1000. That thing was only doing 32 mpg riding carefully, about 24mpg riding vigorously- the race cans might have effected that;)

Unless they've changed, when you remove the backrest, the top box bracket fits into the holes that are left. Can't remember buying any blanking panel. Good call on the Givi screen - you won't be disappointed.

You do need a blanking panel, it has drilling points so you bolt through. Rubber grommets supplied for the spacers so it is neat and watertight.

Pretty sure I never drilled anything. From memory, removed backrest, fitted spacer tubes into backrest holes, fitted grommets between tubes and panel, fitted metal plate by screwing long bolts through plate and then extension tubes, bolted Givi boxvcarrier to plate. Job done. Maybe on a 400 or 650 non-exec without the backrest you would need to drill holes in the panel to gain access to the threaded holes for the mounting bolts & tubes but almost certain (it was 5 years ago) that you use the existing holes in the panel.
