Budget top box suggestions for 2004 650?

Apologies, Muppets, coz I’m sure this question must’ve been asked before…

I’d like to put a decent sized top box on my 2004 Burgman 650 but I don’t want to pay the kind of money that Suzuki/Givi/Shad et al are asking.

I’m too stingy to pay Shad/Givi prices, for mount/plate/box and wondered if anyone can suggest a (much) cheaper solution, please?

Thanks.

CMPO have a sale on, boxes from £17 also look on Amazon, plenty bargains on there.

There's loads of cheap Givi clones on eBay & Amazon and they're fine*, except for when you ride over a bump and the box flies off its mount *cough* PIKEY *cough*

Get one by all means - I would if I needed another one - but I'd put a long bolt & wingnut through the mount and bottom of the box before actually using it.

*the box in question bounced along the road for some distance before coming to rest intact, mercifully having not distributed Julian's underpants all over the road.

I have Givi Boxes on my Burgman and my Honda CB250RS, because in the past I have bought cheaper boxes that have jumped off on a bumpy road, totally trashed on both occasions, and I was lucky no other traffic was about at the time, or I could have been in all sorts of trouble for having an "unsafe load".
I did not like paying Givi prices, but ----------------------
I bet one turns up on Ebay or one of the forums for you,
Good Luck
Robin.

Another consideration is that if you buy an expensive box (Givi, Shad) it will last and can be transferred from bike to bike should you want to change , upgrade or whatever.
I did that from X9 to Silverwing.

Thanks you Gents,
I can see an eBay top box fitted to a home brewed rack coming on....

Chris.

Last year I bought a Ryde 32l Motorcycle Helmet Top Box from Amazon for about £35.

I wanted a small box that suited the size of my scooter but I think they do large ones as well.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00B ... detailpage

I wondered whether the Universal Mounting Plate that came with it would fit my rack but yes it did :D

It clips on and off the mounting plate quite easily AND it seems to me securely ... I have been over quite a few bumpy roads and it has not fallen off.

I would say that although the lids locks securely enough it is a bit fiddly to line things up.

In my book it is well worth the money, oh yes and it looks smart.

Hey! Have you found one yet? I've got a new one never fitted and then I changed the bike and don't need it anymore. It's a generic one and should fit any standard rack. Let me know...
