Hope to look an 18th mth old 400 at weekend, looking at pics the backrest appears to be all in one with the middle section above rear lights. Soooo, if needed to put a Givi box on, what happens to this middle section? Givi instructions only appear to show standard burg 400 and looks like mounting plate just bolts on top of middle section.
Cheers folks

The passenger backrest has to come off and the top box replaces it using the same holes. To make a neat job you need a different panel to replace the backrest one.
To have a look at what is involved - the top rear panel just pulls straight off backwards, held by spring clips that come off with it.
The standard panel has marks on the underside of where the holes need to be drilled to match the holes in the frame
I got a spare colour marched panel thrown in as part of the deal when I bought my bike

Yes it has the passenger backrest. So that panel would slide back complete with backrest, and new "standard" panel put in its place. Gotcha Thanks

Only the panel slides back, from there you should be able to see how the backrest bolts in place.
It's shorter than the standard panel

Same with the new 650. I bought a spare panel so I can replace it when I sell the bike or whatever.

Re: Givi box fittment on 400ZA Exec. version
What year is the 400? It sounds like it may be the same model as mine and I have just fitted a Givi topbox. The panel didn't slide back. The padding of the backrest needs to come off first and then from there the plastic push rivets that hold the two parts of the back panel/backrest need to be removed. From there the bolts of the backrest can be undone and the backrest removed and the panels removed. I bought a replacement panel which, as others say, is marked on the reverse for drilling. When drilled, fit the new panel with the same push rivets and then follow the Givi instructions to put the mounting together and attach it.
