Yamaha X-Max 400 - Issues?

Hello Folks.

So in week I've had my Xmax400 (13 Plate) for a year. Ive done just shy of 10k miles. I was wondering if anyone else has done this amount of mileage yet?

Upon my 6,000 mile service they had found the engine bay hadn't been oiled/greased when on the production line. So the casing and bolts had all seized up.

Has anyone else experienced any issues or problems?

Seem to recall someone had problem with the flexible bellows thing cracking?

July '13 just over 10k miles..
coolant pipe popped off,
air intake bellow cracked - replaced - seems a different texture / material...
engine bay not oiled? - which casing bolts have seized? - more info please - and comments on your ownership etc..
variator cover / casing bolts all came out OK when I did the Dr Pulleys...
Most bikes are built dry / no grease - I always coppa slip every bolt I take out

Comments on ownership. Fantastic scoot. Very enjoyable to ride. Little bit of a big arse, but she is what she is. Had new set of tyres on front and back ready for winter and contemplating the handmuffs and apron now colder weather is setting in. If anyone has an opinions would be great?

In regards to the engine bay. I probably won't explain well as I'm not too mechanical savvy and all work was done by Yamaha. But the way it was explained was the casing around the engine/belt/filters hadn't got any oil/grease and neither had its fixings. I've done a lot of coastal riding and ride the bike every day come rain or shine. So it was put down to weather and not being properly lubricated on the line. Was told I need my air intake/filters replacing too but still waiting for all the parts to arrive. Thank god for warranty.

Got the Yamaha Apron, yep its nice and warm, but thick and cumbersom, - specially filling up with petrol, makes the scoot a bit susceptable to crosswinds etc... dunno if the Tucano or bagster offerings are better...
to be honest - i should of gone for a pair of Insulated overtrouser http://www.spadaclothing.co.uk/productd ... ctname=905" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; quilt lined trousers @ £30 instead, as you still need waterproofs as teh rain runs down ya jacket in ya lap - or down the seat to ya arse...
Use Tucano Urbano neoprene muffs - 5 yrs old and have used em on previous scoots - excelent - not sure on the Yamaha versions...
As mentioned - Bolts arnt usually greased from new / production - i always use a dob of coppa slip on most bots threads, or a smear of grease on surfaces...
Coastal Riding may make things worse!

- one of teh filters is a little tight in the casing - but go in fine... used one set @6k miles - got another set waiting to go in @12k miles (in 1500 miles time!)
It has been reported before on Maj forums (same engine / airbox arrangment) that teh filters become dirty sooner than teh manual suggests - and mine is used daily for a Central London commute - so a change every 6 k - especially at the MSA price!

Following a few problems at delivery now just 6 months old with only 1500mileson the clock, hasn't missed a beat. looking for wood to touch as I tap this out. 69-75 mpg. Not much more I can say.

So in the deluge this morning the apron acts to create a huge pool of water in ya lap - still fairly waterproof... but with the wind all over the shop... plus when it was time to go home the apron was pretty soggy so my trousers got damp from that... took it off when I got home...
Brilliant in the cold - a right pain in the wet... those are my findings... and a badly spent £100
Go for them £30 insulated waterproof over trouser is my suggestion... and for £40 the muffs are a no brainer...

I'm going to buy some Muffs at the end of the month. Might try the official Yamaha ones. Has anyone fitted these before?

As for Apron. I'm in two minds hearing the feedback. I have an all in one waterproof. I was hoping for something that was a little quicker and easier for just in and around town.... On the subject of accessories. Does anyone else have anything on their Xmax? I have the 50L Topbox which is fantastic for storing all my riding gear on trips out. I have the PhoneCase/Charging Unit which is pretty nifty for using as a SatNav unit. Other than a Poundland push light and a smelly air freshener under the seat!!!

i never get on with apron`s yet i dont commute, yet i prefer and purchased Cordura Textile Waterproof Motorbike Motorcycle Trousers as to wear without jeans underneath, yet if you gonna wear jeans or trousers under then get 1 or 2 size bigger, warm as toast and keep you dry quilted and armoured and zip botoms for your boots for £40
