Monday dawned wet but not cold, by 9am I was at Tebay services enjoying a very expensive breakfast. fortified I travelled up the m6 to J21 to find the old A74 to Scotland, what a brilliant road, tho surface is a bit dodgy in parts. travelled up to Abington services with the m6 in view for much of the way, bought petrol then onwards up m6 to m8 and over Erskine bridge onto loch Lomondside. stopped for a brew from flask and an egg butty[delicious]at duck bay.
Onwards to the roadworks at Crianlarich then over Rannoch moor, down thro Glen Coe to Ballachulish over the bridge and onto Fort William, where I met my pal, who has been banished to the Isle of Skye[wet grass, wet sheep, midges, and that's just the good stuff] We had two nights stay b&b enjoying all Ft William has to offer.
Then I loaded up the x10 And set off via loch Ness side, Drumnadrochit, up to Ullapool. had a nice brew and cake at a café above the outdoor shop. Then onto Lochinver and to the camp site at Achmelvic.
The campsite which, is quite lonely,is in a beautiful setting. about 4 miles from Lochinver which has petrol ,stores and a pub.
After a few days touring the small roads of Sutherland single track with loads off passing places and gorgeous views, I loaded up the scoot and travelled south to Luss on Lomonside, and met up with my pal Tom from Durham, we pitched the tents had a mediocre meal in a mediocre pub. And the next day a great run out, me on the x10 and Tom on his excellent 250 majesty.we went over glen Douglas to Inverrary, where we had fish n chips, very nice[ but not as good as home]. Then onto Lochgilphgead Oban, Crianlarich and back to the tents. we had a nice meal watching the moon rise over the loch.
The next day back down south using the old A74 and the A6. takes a bit longer but is worthwhile.
Twas a great holiday and the X10 performed admirably, its got 4500mls on the clock now.B

sounds marvellous...there is no doubt that the area and roads north and south of Ullapool are my favourites on a bike/scooter...especially into Ardnamurchan and Lochinver and those single track roads...I assume you got good dry weather as its been good in Scotland this summer....you need the weather to be kind when on the west coast...Haste ye back!...and lets hope you don't need a passport the next time!!

I just did a somewhat shorter trip to the Scots Borders as well. Oddly my Tmax doesn't seem to like Scotland! As soon as I pointed it in the direction of Scotland, the rear tyre started giving a funny lack of grip feeling, and I had to take it slightly cautiously round the Scottish bends, but on the way back, as soon as I was south of Hadrians Wall, it returned to normal!

btw the Borders are well worth visiting...superb scenery but completely off the tourist trail. Miles of almost completely empty flowingly twisty roads to ride.
