I hope I'm posting this in the relevant section, apologies if I haven't

My wife is looking to downsize from her Honda CB600 Hornet to a scooter, she's owned and ridden many bikes over the years and is fully aware of the drop in performance moving to a smallish scooter, it's only going to be for nipping around locally. What she's looking for is a sporty looking 200 or 250 if such a thing exists ? in her words " the kind of sporty scooter the youngsters tool about on but not a 50 or 125 like they all seem to be" again in her own words "not a fuddy duddy commuter type scooter". I hope her words don't offend anyone on here but I'd welcome any model suggestions that anyone feels would fit the bill ?

Kymco Xciting 400 might suit, or even a Yamaha Tmax.
There aren't any sporty 200-250 scooters these days, the Kawasaki J300 SE ABS is the smallest sporty looking scooter thats not a 125.
Or you could get the orange Honda Forza from Padgetts....

Sym joymax 300i, I think that's quite sporty looking.

Thanks for the suggestions, it would be a used one if that makes any difference ? I should've also mentioned that it needs to be considerably lighter than her Hornet which is 180 Kg ? all of the suggested models are heavier than her current bike, am actually surprised by how heavy some of them are ? perhaps she'll have to consider a 125 after all ?

Yamaha Tmax seems to be king of the "sporty looks" scooters but might be a bit big/powerful

Kymco 300i and Kawasaki J300 are related, smaller/lighter but still sporty looking

Scooters will be heavier than a sports bike because the open frame has to have extra metal to strengthen it ( to make up for the lack of triangulation) + bodywork and brackets. The weight is carried very low though, making them more manageable

Thanks for the insight, was trying to figure out why they were so heavy and I understand what you mean re the lower centre of gravity making them more manageable, it does seem that there's a gap in the market for something a bit bigger than a 125 but perhaps it's only my wife that's after such a thing.

There really aren't many 200+cc scoots that weigh less than 180kg! BUT in most cases the weight of a scooter is carried much lower than on a bike so will often feel lighter (no idea what a Hornet's like). Sporty small scoots....thats a tricky one! A lot of the smaller ones look sporty in order to appeal to Yoof, but the sportiness is entirely a matter of suitable stickers and colour schemes!

How about a Gilera Runner? - the old 180cc 2 strokes were insanely sporty, but there were some 200cc 4 strokes more recently.

Thanks for the info, the Gilera runner 200 4 stroke sounds spot on, quite light too at 138Kg, do you know if they're any good ie reliability, parts availability, etc ?

For lightness and looks I'd look at the Piaggio Beverly 300ie, Vespa 250, SYM Joyride 200, Honda PCX. Those are all I can think of right now.

Ive had a few hornets in the past, both 600, and a 900. Light sporty scoot for the misses. Have a look at a yam x-max 250.
