Guys,

I am a new rider and know nothing mechanically about scooters , I am preparing to take my scoot to the garage on Monday to have a new back tyre , brake pads and brake disc as they are pretty close to the limit , so i was preparing to take the financial hit on that.....now on my way home from work tonight i was doodling along at full throttle on flat ground when all of a sudden i lost power and dropped to 35 mph at full throttle and a sreetching sound could be heard , this happened for about a minute , then the bike got power again??? any ideas what causes this problem???

Mmm clutch pads?

Sorry forgot to mention its a Honda S-Wing 125 2008 has 23000 miles on the clock

Had a service last august , last month i had a new tyre , brake disc and pads , never done this before , have noticed i slight drop in power but not to the extent of today and without the screetching noise..

I suspect it's the belt being shredded, can't think of anything else. Other parts are clutch pads, but basically you need to open up the CVT cover and have a look at the belt and clutch. Probably not serious TBH, just wear causing a service part to fail.

sounds like transmission, slight loss of power , could be worn out rollers or one or more of the sliders have broken, ( front end were your feet are) causing the screeching at the front of the transmission or the clutch plates are worn out of thickness at the rear of transmission (tyre side) causing the squeel, think of clutch linings as you would brake pads and if they wear out they squeal as there on there way out to let you know. so it all depends were the noise is coming from.... either way if you can diagnose the area you cant get fobbed off by the dealer, also can be caused by a worn drive belt width, so you need to be more specific in your diagnosis, as you say you cant do it yourself then its about not getting ripped off

i have the manual , it looks manageable to change the belt , at least i don't have to take the rear wheel off , may attempt that if the dealer is going to charge me alot , its costing me £240 to get new rear tyre , pads and brake disc..

most things are do able, take the tranny cover off and inspect, and report your findings, with cover off and on centre stand you can turn the back wheel by hand and listen.. if you learn to do yourself then you save tons of money
