MP3 advice required.

Post by spdtwn »

From the Land of the Long White Cloud. Yesterday I had a sudden rush of blood to the head. I bought a 2007 MP3 250. To keep T Max company. Of course. Plus ever since my first ride on one many years ago when I thrilled, well more like shit myself, on finding loose gravel half way round a roundabout the wee thing just went through it like a good 'un. I tore round that roundabout several times with a great grin on my face. So here I am, much older but probably no wiser with an MP3.
The seller gave me a good price, well I hope so, 'cos of a problem with the Tilt Lock system. It doesn't! Apparently he has had the diagnostic guys go over it and proclaim that it has a faulty ECU. They disconnected this,'cos no parts in NZ, and he could continue riding it. Albeit with a red warning light forever illuminated.
Having rode it for just a day I have discovered how necessary this Roll Lock is. Parking on a sloping surface is a no-no with only the center stand. So is dismounting for someone with a gammy knee(me).
My plea is; any info on this; what part do i need; is it a DIY job; who is a good part supplier.

I was told, by the seller, that subsequent models to mine had this problem sorted. I'd like to get mine to this state!

Thanks guys.
Sla'inte

sorry spaceprobe just trying to link a fellow kiwi with what i thought was a forum that may help him with his tilt rollover problem parts may come later.
Shit if you read my posts you would realise Italian would not be my first port of call unless it was youg and had a warranty.

Thanks Gentlemen. For the words of wisdom .

I understand what Maxiscoot is about re Italians. However during my long association with bikes and scooters...of which my first love was a Rumi Formicino...I have enjoyed some of the best stallions from that country. Wonderful motors and solid handling. As for electrics...Joseph Lucas, the infamous Prince of Darkness had to bow to the Latins.
On advice I posted on modern Vespa and have had a good link to the part, which I hope will restore the front ends lock ability.

Cheers.

Ignore the italian comments. Reading you will see that most of the non italian bikes are the ones constantly having problems. I have owned 2 MP3's and never had any problems with the electrics.

Most common tilt problem is the seat sensor, some bikes had wires break at the saddle hinge due to early poor wrapping. This was solved on later bikes.

You should still be able to manually lock the suspension with by hitting the switch twice to the lock position in quick succession.
