SYM - it's a small world

Somebody I know married a lovely woman from Taiwan (they are over there visiting her relatives at the moment) he is techy but has no interest in bikes.
At their wedding I met her father and it turns out he designed motorcycle engines and had worked for a division of SYM but was now retired. Unfortunately we didn't have any shared language and had to speak via one of his other daughters, not that it was a good time to be firing scooter questions at him. His daughter rode a local version of the Honda Shadow scooter but I don't think she would have been too happy about spending all night translating my stupid questions - her english was excellent but didn't run to alloys and components.
I'm looking forward to meeting him again.
