Had a nice ride through Lancashire past Dove Stones Resevoir into Yorkshire and back through Derbyshire.
Some nice machinery on the road, an old Harley Davidson Hydra glide (I think). I momentarily saw myself pretending to be in "The Wild One" leading the Beetle gang, then a Goldwing trike and various sports bikes and a Victory.
The funny thing is if anyone had offered to swap I would have said no thanks.
My burger 400 just fits right, and I pootled along with a nice warm fuzzy feeling.
I'm not trying to say its a dream machine or anything and I would love to play with other stuff for an hour or two. I was particularly envious of a couple of dirt bikes that turned off onto an interesting looking track (I like to think they were father and son because one had an old "scrambler" and the other a modern off-road, both with gear to match) but only for a moment.
It just felt good to be right where I wanted to be.

When I see Harleys or dirtbikes, I just thank my lucky stars I'm on a Maxi rather than either of them!

Re: Window shopping
Brando rode his own Triumph Thunderbird in the Wild One. His gang mostly rode British bikes, it was the Lee Marvin mob that had the Harleys! End of movie trivia section.

Re: Window shopping
I know where you are coming from Bluebottle. You've a bike you are very happy with. The grass isn't always greener on the other side either. When you see these Harley's and Goldwings, they are nice, but all come with loads of baggage re: weight, not so responsive handling, higher service costs, heavy fuel consumption (compared to what we have). Been there and done that...and like you, glad to have the Burgman.
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Re: Window shopping
I like Harleys but not for me, and dirt bikes? I'd just fall off too much.

That's how I remember it too, he led the Beetle MCC and rode a Hydra Glide like the one I saw.Whatsisname wrote:... it was the Lee Marvin mob that had the Harleys!
They might have been "Black" Beetle MCC or similar and I might have seen some other old Harley but that is what it reminded me of - forties look but with the chunky forks.
I read somewhere that at the time Triumph weren't happy about Brando's character despoiling their brand, don't know if there is any truth in it.
