I don't like the idea, I think it would be too distracting for the rider. Why go so complex? Surely if you had a system to install in any helmet that had a few LEDs... one on the left for turn left, one on the right to turn right. A couple of others for other things. These could be linked via BT or wifi to your phone or sat nav device which tells the LEDs to light up. Would be a hell of a lot cheaper, you can use a helmet you trust and know will fit you.

I am curious what others think?

I kind of like the idea. But from the pics it seems very distracting. Maybe if they simplify it a bit and move it at a corner of the visor.

The "Start driving to hide map" under the picture suggests that the display only shows when you're stationary. Even so, I'd rather use a proper map.

I've seen an article that the Reevu people have shown a helmet with HUD, but that shows speed, temp and other normal dashboard functions. It might work, but it might be a distraction. There again, I never really got the rear vision thing on their helmets to work properly for me......

Not a good idea as it can distract your eye's from the road ahead.

I think it needs alot of tweaking but the only thing is when you change your helmet are you able to change it as well

I certainly wouldn't pay $1500 for it, I am quite happy listening to directions in one ear with phone sat nav in my jacket pocket.

I've used HUDs in aircraft and worked on developing training packages for them. i wouldn't say military pilots are morons or distracted.

Visor type HUDs are less distracting than you think.
Your eyes don't really see the HUD when they focus on the outside world, a quick change of focus is required - unless you use your eyes independently like the Apache system

Getting lost or looking down at your gauges are more distracting. Plus your eyes switch off when they move ( or you'd fall over/puke) but they don't if you just change focus.
You get used to a HUD in under half an hour.

I would never totally rely on a GPS though. It's just another tool alongside a map and road signs

i would imagine this will come in at a high price to begin with then 20 years as standard
