X10 on Isle of Wight

Post by SoloSzabi »

Hi everyone,

Me and my Misses went to Isle of Wight last weekend. This was the X10's first proper test. We left London quite early on Saturday morning to avoid traffic. Easy trip to Portsmouth, little wait to the ferry and 45 minutes later we been on the other side. We spent Saturday and Sunday to touring around the island. It is a beautiful place and traffic was very good! Empty roads after 6 o'clock. We came back Sunday evening and I made it back from Portsmouth ferry station to East Sheen in 1 hour and 10 minutes.

X10 was awesome. It was fully loaded |(boot and top box) and I still managed to reach the 87mph on the way home. It was a bit heavy on fuel, but I am not surprised. Isle of Wight has so many steep hills. Sometime I felt we are going to flip over on the way up, but I never felt unstable the front end. I had to stop and reorganise the packing, because I put to much weight in the top box and over 65mph the handling was a bit funny. Built in handbrakes are good idea and I used it a lot, but I have to learn to park in the right direction.... or I need a reverse gear on my bike. I had some funny moments, when I parked on some hill the bike facing down...and I wanted to turn around or push back the bike. It was a very good gym workout! :)

Here are the numbers:
Trip: 291 miles (Not a lot, but we spent fair amount of time on the beach and did some short walk on the trails..)
Driving time: 10 hours 14 minutes
31 mph average speed
87 mph max speed
69.1 miles/gal average
Are we there yet?

Nice report, glad you both had a good trip.

I think virtually 70mpg is pretty decent running 2-up and packed, especially as you didn't hang around coming back.
