When I had my Mk1 Tmax, I found the single twin piston a bit lacking when it came to hauling the beast up from speed or in an emergency stop situation. So I upgraded it to a R6 4 piston ""blue spot" caliper. I've just fitted another one on my father-in-laws Tmax. This is such a simple conversion as it literally bolts straight on. No shims or brackets are needed. As you can see in the photos the swept area is perfect. Later Tmaxes have 2 of these 4 piston calipers, so you know its a good move and only following what Yamaha themselves did. I paid £30 for mine and £23 for the F-i-Ls. He is beyond impressed with it too. As he said it doesn't feel that different until you need it and then you really feel the benefit. Its never going to throw you over the bars or see you doing rolling stoppies but it does give you a bit more braking power when you need it and for little money.

i need a new front disc too can this be changed too
Yes the early 99-2002 R6. Dont know if the discs fit but lots of discs are compatible. I think I posted a list of them before but cant find it on search? Dont buy anythingon teh strngth of it but i think it was discs from Diversions etc. I'll check my PC at work monday to see if I have it on that one.
I have had to replace the front disc on my 2001 T-Max and I have found that discs cost far too much for this Yorkshire man. Even shopping on fleabay for a new pattern disk was at least £60 or more by the time it got to my house. So a plan was needed.
Removed the disc and measured it
Outside diameter is 282mm
Internal diameter is 132mm
Fixing bolt hole diameter is 8.3mm
Fixing bolt hole centre to fixing bolt hole centre diagonally measured is 150mm
Found a shop on fleabay selling pattern discs for a T-Max
Looked up what bikes that disc would fit and ended up with this list
Back to fleabay and did searches for discs on the above bikes.
Found a XV125 S Virago Front 97-00 disc.
Took a risk and got that for £15, it looks like one of those that don't rust up in winter when you leave it for 10 minutes without riding the scoot.
New set of pads – fleabay £9.99 inc P&P
Half an hour later scoot has its new disc on 10mins later after road test recheck tightness of bolts, job done.
I hope this helps
