Re: Piaggio or Suzuki
As always it's each to his own but for me Japanese reliability, longevity and R&D wins the day.

Burgman 400 handles like shit (not my opinion, but from a friend who has owned every maxi under the sun) and the Piaggio 400cc engines and above are agricultural. If you want the smoothness of your GTS you'd be better with the Beverly 350 or X10.

Re: Piaggio or Suzuki
having owned both the xevo wins hands down for me . due to the riding position .. you sit more on it ... the burgman you sit more in it .. just my choice ... the reliability comments are total rehashed shyte ... the xevo is spot on reliability wise cheaper to service and parts are usually cheaper and readily available ...
ride wise on a long cruise the burger is better and smoother has better storage .... but everyday riding the xevo is generally more fun and far more flickable . rear suspension is a bit harsh .. but you can live with it ..... budget to change the screen on an xevo for a givi if its not been done as the standard one is awful .. but i had a laminar lip on the burger ... and having owned both is the burgman worth the extra money ... for me no not at all .... both very good just the xevo suits me and my riding style better ..
iwill agree with doug the burgman handles like a land barge compared to the xevo round town

Re: Piaggio or Suzuki
I have read nothing but good about the Xevo to be honest - I've just had experience of the 400 engine in an MP3 and I hated it. I've heard nothing bad about the Burgervan either apart from early clutches. I think Piaggios are reliable with a caveat about protecting electrics from corrosion! To be honest it will take a test ride on both to figure out what you prefer. If you like getting the stand down on your gts when cornering then the Xevo might be the better choice! My all time favourite ride has to be the TMAX Mk3, I haven't ridden the BMW enough to decide whether it's better yet - I'm pretty certain it is the equal of the Max though.
Re: Piaggio or Suzuki
xevo storage is badly designed I think underseat in 2 parts with hump in middle top box rack has to tilt up to get at boot never liked x8 rear stlyling like a toy compared to suzuki 400

Re: Piaggio or Suzuki
thats the trade off ... if you need storage buy the burger if you want a more spirited ride get the piaggio ,,, the storage is in one piece but very shallow at the front end ,,, i think because they put the 400 engine into the 250 frame which made it a tight fit ...
im a bit biased as the k7 burger i bought new was just a heap of shyte in its first 7 months it had both fork legs replaced due to pitting .. clutch basket replaced .. both brake light switches failed and when i went to pick it up after having the front wheel changed due to corrosion . as i rode off it blew a hole in the battery as the recitifier went ... it took 4 months of wrangling to get suzuki to admit it was a heap of crap ... in the end they bought it back ... if i won one in a raffle id sell it ... mainly due to suzukis terrible attitude towards warranty repairs and poor parts supply .... but many on here swear by them .. you pays ya money you takes ya choice

Re: Piaggio or Suzuki
I have no Suzuki or Yamaha dealers in my town, but do have two piaggio dealers close by one i have dealt with a fair bit,
have sat on a burgman 400, but not rode one, and it does seem very low when you are sitting in it as opposed to on it

21,000 miles in all weathers all year round on the Xevo. Very reliable, great fun. I like the fixed mirrors too. I'm a heavy lump and me and the Mrs use the motorways no problems for long journeys without being stuck in the slow lane.
As always, don't buy anything without a test ride!
The Xevo 400 vs Burgman 400:
Better than the burgman:
Lighter than the burgman
Longer and cheaper service intervals
Better MPG (compared to my Brothers 2010 one bought from new)
Higher seating means you can see further
A bit more top end power
Proper stainless exhaust
No clutch problems
Battery in a sensible place
Slightly better handling
Remote seat release is good especially for the boot if you don't have a top box
Worse than the burgman:
Lower build quality on the panels
A bit less storage - you wont get two full face helmets under the seat.
Slightly slower off the line than the Burgman
Lower resale value
Less leg room than the burgman
The boot is a bit fiddly to access if you have the top box fitted.
More vibey at slow speeds
