I'd suggest that one of the bigger maxis would be better for long distance touring - you can never have too much storage room! Comfort is important....I've found some of the more compact mid-sized scooters excrutiatingly uncomfortable (Honda SH, Piaggio Bev350), though these things are very personal. I've always found the Tmax comfortable on long journeys - plenty of space and good riding position, though they aren't many cheap ones of those either!
