Yes indeed. Of course he overlooked one thing. We all agreed on the lower calorific value. Just the amount and variability of the way it affected things was his bone of contention, I think. But he wasn't very clear. Never mind. Hoping he comes back as he is probably a nice guy. But frankly anyone that gets that upset or frustrated as to delete his account on a forum over something simple like this probably shouldn't be on one in the first place.

As long as the debate doesn't descend to name-calling which thankfully is rare here.

There is so much received "wisdom" about ethanol it's scary - and has spilled over into the anti-vax arena as some of the vaccines do in fact contain a small amount of it......

Shane, I was enjoying the debate.

My own scientific research has been limited to deciding to run my 24 year old 600 Diversion on E10.

It's doing fine so far.

Right guys. Just finished anothe 3 tanks of E10. Each time the tank has been brimmed when refilling. Mileage recorded. Bike then ridden normally. As a reminder, in summer my GTS gives me 89-92mpg depending on the type of riding & conditions. That's all been on E5 95 octane. With winter here my records for previous years shows the bike at this time of the year managed between 85-86mpg on E5. So, the last 3 tanks of E10 95 octane has given me 85.9mpg. That's actually no change from E5 95 octane. So it's E10 all the way for me.

Important to note: some of you may notice a small improvement in mpg depending on what bike you have (see previous posts where I explain this). Some of you might notice a very very slight drop in consumption over previous readings taken at THIS TIME OF YEAR. Most of you will not notice any difference, but bearing in mind everyone's fuel economy reduces at this time of year due to all the things we discuss earlier here in smeghead's excellent post. Smegs my brother you know...isn't that right Smeg! Lol

I have noticed a drop in mpg however I can't be sure as the weather is colder so I can only review it after a year of use and compare, also I am riding less and over shorter distances so that also affects it... but also if I do try to compare over a year my bike will be a year older and its mpg may be affected through that... so I don't think it will ever be possible for the average person to compare.

I’m not going to get heavily involved in this debate - but i have to agree that to get proper answers proper information must be also be fed in, - every day each of us awakes to different circumstances that created yesterdays responses therefore our reactions today are also very likely to be different to those of yesterday.
Not many of us would chance running the tank dry just to prove (disprove) a point but there may come a time when a dry tank results…. For me in recognition of this I've fitted a very good extra fuel tank available from Amazon :

Ive found this tank to be neat, compact and very reliable.

No need to run a tank dry Jim. Just do a conventional brim to brim, record miles etc & do the maths. Easy. You can do this every time you fill if you want so as to build up a complete picture of what your mpg's are. You'll notice an improvement of mpg's as the weather warms & a reduction as weather gets colder. So far since September when E10 came in I've not noticed any difference compared to E5. I have records of fuel economy going back years, because I'm a sad git! But it does show my fuel mileage clearly. Mostly my records related to my work mileage covered so I could claim my fuel allowance.
