More I look the better the kwack seems just got to find a dealer with one that's not 1000000000000 miles away to have a proper look

Reason I wasn't looking at t maxes was with the gilera aprilia option I got a 2012 bike for four grand

The kwak was four grand

I was looking at a lot older map stuff with mega miles for that amount

T Max is a poss if I get decent money though

Picked up my gp800 on saturday morning after an epic stint in garage cutting out. Immediately fell in love again with the power and big bike ride but the bloody thing cut out again at traffic lights when I wanted to show a boy racer in a mondeo my cute rear led lights :(

Thats right SGT they changed my forks for the correct ones in the end .When they rebuilt the ones fitted they just changed the fluid viscosity and levels/ volumes worked great for a short time then the damping was crap again and they knocked ,apparently some early srv`s had gp800 fork sets fitted which did have the same fault . The new forks i had fitted never been a problem .

My forks have a leak on seal which needs to be fixed when it goes back in again. Mechanic wants to tinker with idle screws

i thought the gp800 would have throttle body with injectors in it :?: i would also think a TPS reset and new plugs and a fuel cleaner through the fuel tank, stalling at stops indicate to me the fuel idle mix on throttle shut off is too lean, if it is a throttle body, then uncliping off the sensors and wd40 clean then reput back on and a TPS reset might cure it.. only my opinion
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

It has had numerous resets, new exhaust gasket and two new injectors. Initially it was happening when stationary on an incline and then it became more frequent and cut out randomly at low revs or stationary. Clearly this is dangerous so not happy. Zipping along when it runs is great fun but this more than annoying niggle is killing my ownership experience.

hi lad, ... just some info..if the mechanic has the specific diagnostic for your gp800 he can do Zeroing the throttle/Resetting the throttle valve position signal (TPS reset)
it states how to in the gp800 workshop manual, if you want a copy PM me your email addy.. the below taken from the manual for you to check or print off so the mechanic has the correct values to check scoot :D :D

on the throttle body of the gp800 you have
INTAKE AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR
-10° = 9600 Ohm
0° = 5900 Ohm
+10° = 3800 Ohm
+20° = 2500 Ohm
-30° = 1700 Ohm
THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
With the switch set to "ON" at a variable voltage
between 0.7V and > 4V between pins 23 - 3 on
engine-side wiring.
Ground insulation of pins 29 - 32 - 3 on engine-side wiring
STEPPER MOTOR
Resistance engine-side connector between pins
19 - 9 ~ 51 Ohm
Resistance engine-side connector between pins
18 - 17 ~ 51 Ohm
as well as the FUEL INJECTOR Resistance at terminals: 13.7 ÷ 15.2 Ohm
also the two coils
H.V. COIL
Primary winding resistance: 520 ÷ 620 mOhm
Secondary resistance: 6830 ÷ 7830 Ohm
Spark plug cap resistance
~ 5000 Ohm
you could also disconnect the ENGINE REVOLUTION RPM SENSOR CONNECTOR and clean that up AS THIS IS A CAUSE also

remember that EMS failure is more likely to be due to the connections than to the components :D

YOUR MANUAL STATES IN THE TROUBLESHOOTING SECTION:
Engine stops at idle OR ENGINE DOES NOT HOLD IDLING/ IDLING IS UNSTABLE/ IDLING TOO LOW (possible cause first highlighted then CHECK OPERATION OF)
Presence of faults detected by the self diagnosis
Pump relay ..HV coil..Injector..revolution timing sensor..Air temperature..Coolant temperature..
Ignition efficiency Spark plug ORIgnition timing
Correctness of the parameters Throttle valve position sensor..Stepper..Coolant temperature sensor..Intake air temperature sensor
Intake system cleaningair temperature sensor..Intake system cleaning Air filter..Diffuser and throttle valve..Additional air pipe and Stepper
Intake system sealing (infiltrations) Intake manifold - head..Throttle body - manifold..Intake sleeve.Filter box
Fuel feed (low pressure) Fuel pump..Pressure regulator..Fuel filter..Injector capacity.

THATS IT :D so a clean up of throttle body sensors probably first, and a multimeter test on components would be best bet..
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

Michael thanks for this but assuming he has all this because he has the diagnostics etc. The problem he is having is the randomness. The other related quirk it had was that sometimes when setting off from lights there was a resistance as if the handbrake was on before the bike kicked into life. Again completely random.

I have never experienced a problem like this before on any vehicle.

(Having tried to ride bike this weekend with disk lock on I can confirm this was not the problem with the random resistance described)

ok lad, just a thought  the pick up and the idle stall seems to suggest the throttle body sensors could need a clean on their connectors, ecu is preset and the variable timing relies on the throttle body sensors etc or if the throttle body stepper motor needs a clean, been a few topics on here regarding gileras stepper motor problems.. fingers crossed for you lad :D

Have you owned an Aprilia before?? This sounds just like my old Atlantic - different symptoms, but same random patterns! I especially liked the day all the needles on the dials decided to make a complete rotation of their dials on startup!

There again, the baby Burger was pretty similar - random faults that were untraceable, but never actually caused the scoot to completely stop. I eventually got rid, after sinking a fortune on it, so maybe you should get rid ASAP....
