Would you believe I have not had it two up yet (Johnny no mates). I have had it to 85 on the motorway at only 5000 revs so there was still plenty left to go. When I took it up to London and sat in traffic from hell I got 42 mpg. On the big ride out the other week where I sat on about 60 all day I got 72mpg. With motorway use I am getting 62- 65 mpg. If you look at the French u tube review the rider seems to scrape the centre stand a lot. I have never done this but perhaps I am a more cautious rider. What else can I tell you?

Sorry you asked about the Maxxis tyres, with the 400 which as the same tyres there was a review from both Greece and Singapore complaining about poor road holding in the wet . I wonder if this is to do with their road surface since I used my 400 and the 600 in very heavy rain and wet roads and have found the bike to be very sure footed. When I had the incident the other week with the 4x4 and my ABS cut in the road holding was excellent.

Thanx Spaceprobe for the info . That all sounds good to me but the lower mpg in traffic sounds very low ,my srv on a track day does more than that lol ,but the only way i would see 70 + mpg is on the back of a truck lol. Thanx again

I have to say I was not happy about that low mpg but it was some of the worse traffic I have ridden in. Getting from Brighton to central London took 3.20 hours at a crawl. When I left to return at 1 the was a blockage in the one way street I had to use and traffic did not move for half an hour, I lost the will to live. It's never been that low since but it's not as high as the 400 but does seem more fuel efficient at speed. It's more weighty which gives it a lot of stability on motorways.

spaceprobe, that's good info. I'm sure you know this but your fuel economy will continue to improve steadily as the motor runs in further and real conforming starts to take place. It can take a few thousand miles but by the time you have 4-5k on the clock I bet she averages an extra 4-6mpg overall. Maybe much more. You'll also find the motor becomes more powerful too. If you use that power too much you may find you will wipe out any extra fuel economy. But it'll be fun for sure! The very low fuel economy you experienced in London is not too unexpected especially on a brand new engine. New engines use much more fuel at idle and when moving slowly in traffic. After conforming the same experience will probably only drop the economy to 48-49mpg. My Burgman was similar with heavy traffic around Birmingham (now that was hell!) and it dropped lower than I ever expected when she had just 1200 miles on the clock. Now, with the conforming over ages ago the same run and traffic experience gives me about 10mpg more. Currently each tank on the Burgman 400 is giving 78.7mpg measured brim to brim with 3 Burgman burps to get as much in as possible! That's also almost identical to what the mpg computer tells me. Does the Sym have a fuel computer on board?
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

No but I use an app on my phone "Carango" which amongst other things monitors fuel consumption. I did get a note from a 400 owner in Australia saying that SYM ceramic engines take longer than most to loosen up but that once they do there was still more improvement in mpg.

indeed, ceramic coated cylinder bores do take longer to bed in but last much much longer and are more efficient. He's probably right.

I added suprlube x1 to my srv oil once the motor had bedded in which gave me better mpg across the board and a lot quieter motor and now use in all my vehicles .

What is Suprlube?
What is SRV oil - the engine oil?

The best oil for an engine once bedded in is fully synthetic, no additives required. I'd use car oil like Mobil 1 in a scooter. In fact I do :D

Globs the srv is my scoot , yes i run fully synthetic oil ,but i use an additive called x1 superlube for everything now days as it does what it says on the tin .Its not the same as ptfe type slick 50 additives so dont confuse them ,take a look at there site . Its paid for itself in this house hold time and time again . I use there maintenance sprays, grease etc and one of my favourite items is there spray on gloves .Another member on here uses x1 also with great results .
