Ill second that, trad geared scoots are lots of fun, and if you had one when you were younger, lots of nostalgia. So get one quick before your missus spends the money . :D

i got fed up with commuting by scooter, the costs, and general decrease in speed as idiots increased...

Swapped to a bicycle and much happier. Almost as fast (for my commute) as by scooter, and much more freedom (smaller gaps, dismount and pavement, cycle paths etc). Also a bit of exercise dosent hurt the mid-life spread :god:

If we move further out from London, and it's likely, then i got nominal agreement from the mrs for a bigger bike. I think i'd go for whatever motorcycle-style auto is about then, but something like a NC700 (not X).

But yeah, basically if something annoys you, stop doing it, and adjust if you can. Keep trying stuff until you're happier!

I was going to open up a can of worms and suggest trying a geared scooter as to be honest I had two in a row then went back to autos and I was bored shitless. The 4 stroke LML I own now I've had for a year and a half, that's the longest time I've ever owned one scooter. :o  I don't know if you remember but back in the summer I managed to get a 500cc X9 dirt cheap from Norfolk Nog aka Ted who's on this forum. Now after owning a geared 125 you'd think I'd be in love with the X9 because of the power but even on the first ride home I was bored. I went to the Cleethorpes scooter rally on it as it was 140 miles each way and I fancied giving the scoot a good thrash but on the way home I was following about 10 others on Vespa PX's and I was jealous that they were having fun on their little scooters and there I was on this big armchair bored out of my brain.

I know it's different strokes for different folks but small scooters are what I love. I get a bigger adrenalin rush doing 40 mph on my LML than doing 70+ on the X9 which is why I sold it after 2 months.

Agree totally. I suppose if you compare scooters to cars then your modern auto maxi scooter is like a Ford Focus...

A geared scooter is more like a mark two Escort...

The Focus will do everything a lot better than the old Escort but if we're honest, if you were handed the keys to both and told to drive the car that would give you the most thrills I bet a lot of us would choose the Escort even though the Focus would be more comfortable, handle better, stop better etc etc. :D
