On this generalisation bandwagon I jump..
Anyone who doesn't ride a vespa type scooter is a sports bike wannabe cos that's what most of them look like from the front. And look like a barge from the side......

My point exactly, its a generation thing, you generalise because the mod thing is your first memory of scooter riders, the majority of the people I ride with or have riden with over the years wear protective gear and just fall short of full leathers, and these people ride vintage Vespas and Lammy's, there are the few idiots that like to do 60/70mph with just a flight jacket on, but you'll also find that some actually wear a leather underneath like those rocket jockeys who wear a hoodie over their full leathers (Don't get that look at all). Oh you'll also find most of them wear 7 hole docs or things that are referred to as desert boots.Brubaker wrote:I'm old enough to associate Vespa and Lambrettas with the Mods of the Sixties and the majority of riders I've seen on Vespa type scooters seem to have a dress code that's more fashion than function. It's Quadrophenia meets Skinhead, those naff green nylon jackets and Ben Sherman stuff, I've wandered around a few clothes shops over in Whitby that caters for this look.
I'm sure the GTS is a hoot to ride but it's got zilch weather protection for the upper body so it won't be that much fun to ride far in winter, or when cold rain is finding it's way through your 18 hole oxblood Doc Martens.

Why would I ?Brubaker wrote:

There's plenty of people on here do more miles, all year than I do.
I was actually underlining what I said about Vespas. That in my opinion they have reasonable weather protection.
All you said was they have zilch for the upper body. No mention of you actually having ridden one to find out.
A large majority of 2 wheelers have "zilch weather protection" for the upper or lower body, but they get by.
Like Earl says, I'm sure Vespa riders are clued up enough to wear the correct gear for the conditions.
