Pillion aside it is about what you want to do with a bike. I think my 600 is quite versatile but I have to say it does come into its own on the motorway. Sitting on 80 mph at less than 5000 revs, its quiet and as smooth as silk. I expect this is something that all the bigger engine scoots experience and its certainly made me a convert to the bigger engine, I like the feeling of confidence and safety that it provides for motorway cruising.

Remember that these claimed outputs are peak figures, not necessarily the whole picture.
Are they even relevant when any one of the three will happily sit all day at the speed limit?
If power and torques were really important in a scooter there would be shitloads of GilerAprilia800s on the road....?

Well, if the Aprilia SRV didn't have its foibles and impracticalities, they might sell a lot more. If Yamaha put a similar engine in the TMax, I'd be there in a shot!

Yams new mt07 engine would fit the bill nicely . What impracticalities are you referring to on the srv mr grumpy ?

The chain drive and small storage probably.

I really like the look of the srv and would like one as a next bike but I would worry about the service costs when it's time for a new belt and chain. I know you got a good deal on the servicing of your srv but I'd be buying 2nd hand, probably out of warranty and I don't think I'd get cheap servicing.

Mind you, the Xevos last service and mot came to 360 quid this year which made my eyes water!

Hmm - it sounds to me as if you rode one with a stretched belt. On the windless M11 today I setup Speedview app on my phone and did some tests:

Piaggio X10-350 gearing:
* Indicated 70 (GPS 64) it was doing 6,800rpm.
* GPS 70 (I didn't look at the speedo) it was doing 7,100rpm.

I did manage to stretch the belt on my SYM GTS300 by nudging it up a kerb on the power, it was very easy to do and I gained about 1,000rpm at A and M road speeds. Cost me £35 for a new belt and to get my relaxed revs back that I had on the journey before meeting the kerb!

I'm having a lot of trouble understanding the need for more power TBH. I used to ride a CBR600 and obviously that was a decent 100HP but I rarely used full throttle.
On my Joyride 200 I changed the rollers up for 14.5g DP sliders to lower the revs for better cruising. I cruise around 60-65 GPS and use full throttle at times.
On my SYM GTS300 I changed the rollers up for 19g DP sliders to lower the revs for better cruising. On some of the M11 and A10 hills with a pillion I need full throttle to maintain an indicated 120kph, other times it's just for starts and the odd hooning.
On both SYMs I changed them early into the game as it was obviously too low geared for my journeys.

On the X10 I've been pretty pleased with the speed/revs mix so far, medium acceleration sits around 6,000, harder at 7,000. I certainly haven't been straight onto DP to get new sliders like I was with the others but who knows - I benefitted last time by positioning my motorway cruising revs between max torque and max power to great effect.
I haven't used full throttle yet and it's still in ECO mode but despite that it still feels a fast bike - not as fast as the CBR but on an average journey I'm not convinced I'm really missing anything.

TBH my 171cc is powerful enough for all I do - on motorways I catch up with trucks and can get past without issues, on the X10 I seem to be the fasted thing on the M11. I'd be interested to know how many people use full throttle and how often. I was chatting to a friend with a Speed Triple the other day and he said he never uses full throttle, despite being a club member and going on a number of ride outs.

Exactly - and awful servicing bills. Also, some testers complain of soggy and slow handling which would also put me off, though of course I haven't ridden one to tell if this is bike journo bullshit or not.

Probably cos if you did, the Enterprise going into Warp drive would seem slow & relaxed by comparison!!!

Hi Globs, yes I may have been riding one with a stretched belt. I really don't know, but it was very revvy compared to my Burgman. To be honest the X10 always felt very revvy even when I first rode it. It only had 800 miles on the clock that first time so I doubt it had a stretched belt. With a passenger I found it very underpowered and revvy compared to my burger. But I appreciate it's what you get used to as well. Coming up from a smaller bike you will definitely notice the extra power of a bigger bike like the X10. Going down from my Burgman's 400cc engine with a more lazy power delivery to the 330cc lump of the X10 I noticed it the other way I guess. I felt I'd lost something! I do use full throttle on my Burgman nearly every journey as I love the power and acceleration. It's not big bike performance of course but it's nice enough. It's only 70cc more than your X10 but it makes a huge difference on the road. I go to Birmingham from North Essex once a month and the Burgman is ideal for that. It's a round trip of 380 miles, and one way with a passenger. It does it so so easily. However, I would like (but not need) a bit more power if I'm honest so I'm definitely looking at getting a 600i in the not too distant future. As you may know, spaceprobe has made some favourable reports about it and I'm reading and seeing good things too on the 'tinternet'. I'm not sure I would part with the Burgman though. It's a keeper and I love it to bits. I'll wait and see. So please don't feel I'm slating your X10 or anyone elses becauses I'm not. It's a great bike but just isn't my choice for my type of riding just as the Burgman 400 wouldn't be many other folks choice for their type of journey's either. It just comes down to what most say about it being horses for courses. On another note: how is your fuel working out? What mpg's are you getting?
Probably not ugly enough for the 'Ugly Bunch'!

Been riding for 55 years & owned too many bikes to list here...

There must have been something up with the Burgman 400 I tried, it pulled far less than my SYM GTS300 off the line and the GTS was/is a far more lively bike up to 60 - and the X10 is another step up again. The Burgman I tried just wouldn't rev out. Full throttle pull-away and it just felt laboured and boring - whereas the SYMs and the X10 rev out to 6-7,000 rpm and give out the power. One day I'll have to try one that works.

Last tank was 75.1mpg, not sure if that is typical for obvious reasons!
