To be honest I also think it;s too much for a scooter. You can buy a car for that kind of money.SpikeOne wrote:Am I the only one who thinks that £10K is too much for a scooter irrespective of who makes it or what size engine it has.

Re: BMW 600 Sport Test Ride.
Well, I considered buying a £10K scooter but didn't but only cos I didn't think it was any better than the Tmax....so obviously I didn't consider £10k too much (in principle). I guess its what price you put on enjoyment........SpikeOne wrote:Am I the only one who thinks that £10K is too much for a scooter irrespective of who makes it or what size engine it has.

Re: BMW 600 Sport Test Ride.
It's a lot of money.
The fewer they expect to sell the more expensive it will be.
If it cost a million to develop and produce and you are going to sell 2 you need to charge 3/4 mil. each
If you sell a million you can do them at £1.50 each
If I'm not going to buy something I generally don't spend time worrying about how much it costs but its certainly an expensive beast.

Re: BMW 600 Sport Test Ride.
Her's a twist, I recently discounted the 650 Burgman from my "Short List" one of the main reasons being the price even though I did rate it as a very fine machine indeed. However after trying the BMW I now see the Burgman as being a bit of a bargain. It's true then all things are "RELATIVE".

Do you think that you could stop being a pompous know-it-all arse for about five seconds? Whatever you say, nothing fell off, broke, or leaked during 2000 miles in a week, ridden extremely hard at speeds up to an indicated 120 mph. Anyway, we are all enititled to our own opinions and it is certainly not in anyone's remit to preach about how I should spend my money. I'm not particularly well-off, but I chose to spend it that way. It is definitely as well built and equipped as a £10k motorbike, which it basically is, of course.gn2 wrote: Certainly not one that when brand spanking new has porous crankcases, brake fluid reservoir caps that vibrate off, leaky forks, badly routed brake lines, fairing panels that blow off, racks that shear off and is prone to stalling.
@Mr Grumpy. It is better than a TMAX in many ways, but worse in a few too. It handles better than the TMAX mk3 did, it is quicker and its main benefit is that it feels much better at high speed in side winds on the motorway (Calais E16). Of course the Mk 4 may have upped the game considerably.

Just reporting the facts.DougL wrote:Do you think that you could stop being a pompous know-it-all arse for about five seconds?
I think those facts are where your real problem lies, not me posting them.
Tis far easier to attack me than try to refute the facts.
Am I included in that?DougL wrote:Anyway, we are all enititled to our own opinions
I simply don't care what you do with your money, if you are happy with your TGS then good luck to you.DougL wrote:and it is certainly not in anyone's remit to preach about how I should spend my money.
I do care that BMW are passing off the TGS as premium product at over inflated prices, my concern is that in so doing they may drive up the price of other scooters.
Of course its a motorbike, all scooters are motorbikes.DougL wrote:I'm not particularly well-off, but I chose to spend it that way. It is definitely as well built and equipped as a £10k motorbike, which it basically is, of course.

No they aren't !gn2 wrote:

Anyway,, Everyone values things differently. No matter how much a motorbike would out perform, be better value and supposedly have more street cred than a scooter,, i would always have a scooter of some sort. Preferably a tmax or a c600.
I'm sure if we analysed peoples choice of car, the ones who've bought for example, a new Renault Megane or a Range Rover. They would be looked on as people with more money than sense, because of the depreciation and how rubbish the megane is. Allegedly!
And don't start me off on works of art by Tracey Emin ! (Although they may not depreciate that much)
But people like what they like. So let them spend it how they want.

Re: BMW 600 Sport Test Ride.
Was that 5 seconds?
I'll refute your facts for you GN2
Doug's rack won't sheer because:
A. The C600 never had that problem
B. They didn't sheer, the bolts came lose
C. Locking the threads solved it on the bike that did have issues
Panel problem was down to spring rating on a clip. Clip got changed - problem solved.
Pricing doesn't work that way, you can stop worrying about it.
You called the guy an idiot several times and claimed his bike has faults that it hasn't got - think his response was very measured all considered

Re: BMW 600 Sport Test Ride.
I never really tried out the handling on my test ride of the C600. In some ways the mk3 was slightly better than the mk4 handling wise. Since the mk4 is in many ways softer than the mk3, the feel from the handling has been very slightly sedated, though on the other hand its less sharp and more stable. One would hope the BMW is faster given that it has a lot more grunt! The mk4 is much better than the mk3 in mid range acceleration, but not at the top end. As for cross wind vulnerability, I don't know what Yamaha did to the Tmax between the mk1/2 and mk3/4 versions. The early ones were pretty good in crosswinds - the later ones aren't good at all! Impressive mpg figures from the BMW though. The Tmax drinks like a fish at high speeds. Mk4 may be slightly better than mk3 economy wise, but there's very little in it.DougL wrote:
