thats great news :D 4mm tubing should do it, just warm the scoot up first, before opening up the nipple, (keep top of coolant bottle of, if pipe long enough you might get it up to the bottle) PS. make sure that rubber gasket thats a funny shape stays in place, on the pump cover housing, i rubbed mine in a little grease, did the trick and didnt move when refitting the black pump cover... you will see the air bubbles coming thr the tube, might need a slight rev to get the flow uphill. just take your time lad... and jobs a good un :D

keep the oil seal as a spare :D when fitting the oil seal might ease it in to place better with a little oil on edges... :D
I cant seem to remember.. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.

I have fitted the new oil and water seals today, put everything else back together. Oil is still weeping steadily from that drain hole.

I have given this bike far more time than I have been able to spare. That in itself is causing more problems for me. I now have to give up and get someone else to sort it. Booked in to be collected on 23rd May, which is the soonest my Piaggio dealer can do. At least it gives me some time to save up for yet another massive bill.

Thanks for your help again Michael. I'll let you know when the bike is back on the road, and what was required in order to achieve that.

thats a crying shame lad.. so in all there was three seals... the oil seal, then the water side seal then the seal before the impeller :?: hope everything gets sorted :D

That's right. The oil seal goes down the shaft first of course. There is always the possibility I just haven't pushed the new one in quite as far as needed, but I was certain I had, and to get to it again would mean breaking the new water seal (again)

like you mention it may not have seated properly, did the one from fowlers have the movable inner part like the one i sent you, so it grips the shaft but allows for movement of shaft... how did you seat it, i suppose a socket if you could get it over the shaft, and tap it in place, same as seating a bearing..the water seal kit is £12 are you sure you dont want to have another bash... i know its a pain, but you could save the oil and the water to put back in :D

Just to update you, I went to visit my Nexus today. Yes there has been a lot of waiting.

I was told two weeks ago that the water pump drive shaft was also worn, hence the oil leak remaining despite seals being replaced. The job of replacing the shaft is more than I can do so I've been waiting for the garage to get the parts and carry out the work. The parts are now in and I hope they can get the bike right by this weekend. Here are a couple of photos of how it looks at the moment with the flywheel cover removed.

The initial quote for the repair, including a few replacements seals/gaskets required due to the dismantling, is a tad under £300. I'll let you know how accurate that turns out to be when I get the bike back.

good to know you going to have a good job done, the full seal repair kit including the central pin (which yours was worn) is £40 dont matter if they use the kit from the mark 1 or mark 2 as you are replacing the whole thing.. then the gasket and oil and coolant and jobs a good one :D on hindsight and twiddling thumbs etc there is always a reason why and yours was the pin ... the money is in the time to do the job as taking the cover off etc.. it be summer soon so good news ahead :D

Well, I had a call on Thursday to say the Nexus was repaired and ready to collect. A friend rode me there on the back of his Bonneville this morning and the Nexus is back on the road at last. I was worried before setting off as noticed a little liquid in the same place but was relieved to find it was a slight coolant leak, which I read to expect while the water seals bed in. After putting about thirty miles on it today that seems to have all but stopped and there is definitely no oil leaking.

The oil had not only been leaking through the drive shaft, but also through the casing/flywheel cover gasket. Obviously that gasket is best replaced when changing the shaft anyway, so that secondary leak was solved at the same time.

The total bill came to £255 which included replacement exhaust gaskets and the oil seal and gasket. I'd provided new water seals, coolant, engine oil and oil filter myself.

Thanks again for your help and advice on this. I'm pleased to have the Nexus back on the road and am hoping to put some miles on it before the next catastrophe!

glad you got it all sorted lad :D so really as well as the water pump sorted you have really had a coolant change and a service, so i have all my fingers crossed you now will be enjoying the summer.. you could reset the service light warning, and only thing to think about is checking the belt.. have fun lad and be safe :D
