That's terrible! I remember that I visited my mother in Essex during a heatwave a couple of years ago. I was going back the next day but at 3AM it was still unbearably hot in the house, so I decided to get up and go home there and then!
It wasn't that hot in the NE yesterday, but the humidity was appalling!

26? At midnight? That's unbelievable! This is Britain not southern Spain.

Well - its Essex! I grew up in South Essex and my mother still lived there until her recent death (at 102!), so I have regularly visited there. I have become convinced that the area had transferred to a Spanish climate - winter was a few weeks of gloomy weather around Xmas, then a hot spring and autumn sandwiching a scorchio summer with temps regularly in the 30Cs! The rainfall is often so limited that the area can be classed as 'semi-arid', the lawns irretrievably died a few years ago (though the last 2 winters have been unusually wet). Am relieved that I won't have to go there many more times!

Remind me never to live in Essex. Fine for those who like the heat, but not me. Anything over 23 degrees you can keep!
