To sort the driving away withhe better half got a couple of Faraday pouches from the internet to stop scanners when we got our first smart key car. Since then it's been habit to pop the key in the pouch coming in the house. That way, I have to have the key to start the car. Just a hint.

Re: Smart key Questions
I bought one of those RFID blocking pouches when I bought my Forza. I already had a wallet with blocking features I've had for years, and when I replaced a money belt a couple of years ago it had a compartment with the same features.
Apart from articles in the Daily Mail about thieves nicking Range Rovers by cloning signals or blokes wandering round airports with hi tech briefcases supposedly stealing bank and credit card details from unprotected wallets. Have you actually read anything in the local press about bikes or scooters with a Smart key being stolen by tech savvy thieves?
I haven't, and when I think about it our car has a Smart key and so do most other cars that's new or a few years old. I can't think of anyone else except myself that has one of these Faraday Cage key pouches either.

Here in Mega City 2 cloning is certainly a thing. Mostly high end cars but there was some happening at Squires and other meets. You have to work on the theory that if the Euro gangsters can't get a Porsche or RangeRover today, have space in the container or just fancy your bike you may as well make yours harder to take than the next blokes. Ducatis, Harleys etc. would be a bigger worry than a scooter.Bellman wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 6:01 pm Have you actually read anything in the local press about bikes or scooters with a Smart key being stolen by tech savvy thieves?

It's true they are not the biggest threat. The phone theft and drugs distribution gangs occupy that spot. Battery powered angle grinder to cut the disc off, then gas soldering iron through the ECU. Easiest done with a parked up bike which is why you just don't go into the City centre unless forced. Best thing you could do would be to move the EFI ECU and armour it with aluminium, but a D-lock and chain better than the next blokes is more achievable.
We also have the odd South African style bike jacking. Keyless is an advantage here. Hit the kill switch and move out of range. There is nowhere to stick a screwdriver.
