Re: It could have been worse
I was going to venture out this morning to get a few bits of shopping, thinking it was thawing. Went outside and nearly slid down the path, it's iced over and very slippy. The covers can stay on another day or so..

The main drags round here are looking pretty good - but reaching them over 100m of frozen crushed snow/ice is quite impossible!

Too bad to go out, so I've taken a trip with this guy. We've just arrived at the Spanish border.

Firstly I,m glad everyone is ok ,yes been there done that more than once hence when the roads are this shit and its this cold I stay at home . With regards to the " hairy " scratched black plastics and trying to recreate the original finish it's fairly easy if you have the right stuff . You need a textured bumper and trim spray can . Most motor factors or eBay sellers have them ,normally 10-14 quid depending on can size . Some sand paper to remove and prep the " hairy" bits . Some silly putty may be needed to recreate the exact texture .So prep it ,clean it ,then spray on in light coats . The texture from the can may be close enough but if not roll out a bit of the putty on an I damaged area of the same plastic this will have the imprint of the texture ,you then lightly press this onto the textured sprayed area which should make it look more uniform. If you've had to use a plastic filler you can use the putty on that also before it cures to enhance the appearance .I do the same when welding plastic cracks in car plastics .

Re: It could have been worse
Really useful info, Ferret. I've managed to drop a fair number of motorbikes in my 50 years of riding, and made a point of fitting crash-bars when they were available, but this is my first scooter (SH300) and figure any drop will be pricey. Does anyone have any experience of these sliders - they dont look too robust given the price.

No experience but they look pretty good. I guess that they are effectively sacrificial in the case of an accident - they get wrecked but the scoot doesn't - and they are replaceable. They do some for the mk4-6 Tmax - I'm tempted though they cost £100....cor.... The Tmax has some hard plastic bits at the footwell that are supposed to offer crash protection, but I suspect that if they get damaged, as they are part of the bodywork, half the panels will need replacing to replace them anyway!
