Or boot on other foot this is a scooter...

Image

and so is this

Image

But this isn't

Image

...because the definition of headstock is: "A set of bearings in a machine, supporting a revolving part". So as the steering is in the hub, and the hub is connected to the swingarm, and the swingarm pivot point connects directly to the base of the seat, this cannot be a scooter.

It's gibberish to claim any International Standard for what constitutes a scooter. There is no such definition - and if there is you can supply a link to it?

No matter the yardstick, there are exceptions to prove only that we all know what a scooter is, but if you try to write it down you just can't define it.

I had a professional go at it 20 years or more ago as part of an industry plan to control a definition to separate compulsory basic training requirements, and it simply cannot be done.

I can easily define what a scooter is:
A scooter is a motorcycle.

I think Bluebottle's definition comes from Wikipedia. Under the section "Underbone".

Irev: Care to wager £40,000 on this?
Loser also gets his real job history and positions held posted online by the winner

I'm sure there is a lot you could teach me about motorcycles but not a out vehicle physics, aerodynamics, design history. It really gets on my tits when you try to bully people, baffle them with bad jargon or claim some great inside knowledge. It gives the people who do know stuff a bad name.

I'll supply document and paragraph for minimum of 2 English speaking countries (more if you want, they are in a cabinet behind me). I'll also explain why your question was dumb and why your professional gave the answer he did.

Another 40k bet to disprove your aerodynamics bollocks from last week
Same for the 12 million dollar space pen or that crap about "riders stand up on the pegs to lower the centre of gravity"
You didn't seem to want to chat about those once I started posted evidence.

I know it is childish but after several years I'm sick of hearing this nonsense all over the Internet.
I'm simply not having you say I'm talking gibberish

MJW,
Wikipedia is rarely accurate, don't trust it.
Bluebottles definition comes from his head after many years of being the person that Irev's professionals would go to for answers - it's a basic part of what I do/did.
I currently work in aerospace and physics for massive world-wide corporations, manufacturers etc but I started with automotive design (first wind tunnel model experiment I made was in 1981). Vehicle definitions, construction and use etc. were basic knowledge i had to have and I wound up doing more of that side and working for the govt. I was on the working party during the development, trial and roll out of the current AFRL vehicle registration system (didnt have much impact but i was there).

It got more and more boring so I got back into design and moved to aerospace (mostly helicopters and drones/UAV these days). I also own a multi-award winning company that designs simulation software modelling complex physics and dynamics, specialist support for design teams and the occasional computer game. :P

As soon as Irev takes the bet I'll post up the documents

Sorry, I saw this on Wikipedia and thought it was from there.
An underbone differs from a conventional motorcycle mainly by not having a structural member connecting the head stock to the structure under the front of the seat and by not having a fuel tank or similarly styled appendage in the space between the riders knees.
Anyway, I'd still like some help with it, with the pictures I posted further up.

No problem MJW. I'm not taking issue with you, just Irev.

"Underbone" is a construction technique really and not adopted or defined by officialdom here the way that "scooter" is.
It will make more sense in a bit

OK, I was the marketing consultant to CSM, Marketing Manager for Italjet, consultant to BMW, Honda and Suzuki. I also provided technical evidence in court. I provided the database services for Motor Cycle Dealer, was the Assistant Publisher for Motorcycle Trader, and worked with SuperBike, Bike magazine, MCN/Emap, Motorcycle Sport and Leisure, among others. I also represented Italjet on the MCI. I was a tyre tester for Avon, tested other products for other manufacturers, I worked for Planet Knox in the development and sale of Knox protective equipment. As a Consultant I ran a business consultancy that led the development of Everoak helmets and my database services were widely supplied to the full gamut of manufacturers and distributors at home and abroad. I also introduced Tucano Urbano to the UK market, developing the brand and the distribution network. Just edited highlights, you understand...

I was also the Business Development manager for the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu where I managed a dedicated segment of the Motorcycle World Show working alongside the Show organiser, Frank Levy. It was because of me that you know about the Carver, it was because of me that the Peraves Ecomobile was finally shown in the UK, and ALL the Feet Forward stand and display presence at the show was down to me. No false modesty, just accurate statements.

Now, who the fuck do you think you are?

I hold two degrees, one in engineering and the other in journalism. My background in engineering involved `go under water war junks` as the Chinese like to put it. I also built my own aircraft and hold a private pilots license. so maybe we've met somewhere along the way (although you don't seem to have anything to do with the scooter or motorcycle industry).

Finally, today I am a specialist in environmental matters and am the guiding force behind a government scheme to create jobs, benefit business and save the fucking planet.

Next time, place a bet that you can cover. Now with your obvious deflection out of the way, about that `International Definition`... as previously requested, just post the link or document.

You can have your opinion of me, but I want the facts out of you. MjW has called you out, and I agree.
