Meldrew
I speak as I found.
The Silverwing did not impress me on my ride, for the reasons you have outlined. As you clearly know all the details of the test ride (seemingly more than I remember), you thus cannot accuse me of pretending to have knowledge that I don't have.
And furthermore, you've never been reluctant to supply an endless stream of negativity to this forum, slagging off anyone and anything, so why you should object to my comments I don't know.

I had one for a week, I thought it was a piece of shite, was fast though but I hated everything else, just my opinion though on the bike I had, if anyone else likes them then fine, each to there own n all that jazz, was not interested in storage or mile munching capability or owt either I had it for a courtesy bike when my tmax was ran into back in 2008, unfortunately the company had my bike over 3 months waiting for parts, I hated the silverwing so rang them up and got a new Honda hornet, no good for me wasn't my kind of bike so then got a brand new er6, that was a lovely little bike but yet again another nakid but kept it till I got my tmax back!

Test ride is tomorrow it is a bit of a trek to the dealers, going with the missus to get her impressions as well. I know it is only an hours test ride but quite excited about the possibilities. First time I have been on a bike over 200cc for about twenty years so will be taking it very easy.

I sent it back as it was a nakid 4 cyl, I had only had singles and twins of my own bikes I preferred them, I don't like 4cyl bikes especially then when I was relatively inexperienced with only 4 yrs riding under my belt, I had only the tmax 5 weeks before the bump so was still gelling with it, after everything I had rode before, gilera runner 180 my first scoot, then a ccm supermoto, then a klv100 then a ktm 950 supermoto, I yearned for the tmax after lots of research, the massive grin it gave me was like nothing I had rode before, the fact it was the most confidence inspiring of all my bikes led me to keep it way longer than anything I have had since, upto 15 bikes now, only things I didn't like was back n arseache, the drone of my loud pipe which I had fitted, but other than that it was fantastic, I like speed and bling but not as far as ever riding sportbikes or anything, just too foccussed and uncomfortable, my mates all had them and still to this day, (ex mates now) as there stupid on the road taking risks pretty much all the time, last few years I have only rode round the doors or occasionally with my over 40s mates who like quirky bikes, i.e road legal pitbikes which were a laugh when it ran properly and then on there scooters when I was riding big bikes and small ones, I get more fun from lower speeds but brilll handling bikes now, last big bike was my Husqvarna nuda 900, I couldn't get near them round the doors when they were on the pitbikes, just outhandled, great fun. I just had my own reasons for disliking the silverwing, to me it was bland, almost a 2 wheel Mondeo in burgundy, I am sure if I had a new one to play with instead of the shed they sent me I may have a different opinion. :D

Had a Burgman 400s as my daily ride for 12 years but switched to a Silverwing last August. Enjoying it, certainly puts a wider grin on my face. As a non car driver I do find the extra space under the seat very useful.

Front suspension was terrible to start with - but this was down to a blown seal and not enough fork oil, now sorted.
I did spend £500 on all new caliper pistons and seals plus pads but as the scoot was 10 years old with 50k on the clock I accepted that, as she only cost me £1500 in a private (and local) sale.

Not completely happy with fuel consumption, but hope to see that improve now the braking system has been overhauled...

Had the test ride today the 2nd hand Silverwing was I imagine in the same state as when it was traded in and didn't give a great first impression. However this brief ride was about comfort and handling rather than appearance.
When I said in my last post I hadn't ridden a bike over 200cc in twenty years what I meant to say was I haven't owned a ride over 200cc for twenty years. I recently test rode a Burgman 400 and tried out a Yamaha YP 400 neither of which suited me but I have to say the Silverwing was comfortable from the outset I liked the ride, the engine response and the burble from the exhaust. Rode it in town on single A roads and on dual carriage ways and I felt totally at home with the scoot also the missus was very happy to.
The only down side was there was quite a bit of engine vibration don't know if it is a characteristic of the design or down to this particular example, I do know the test bike is well overdue a service.
All in all very satisfactory, returned the bike and the salesman asks me what I thought, told him I wasn't interested in the bike I ridden but certainly would consider the Silverwing as the next bike and the wife is standing there agreeing with me. Anyway and I have to admit with no pressure from the salesman we find ourselves sitting down to discuss a deal on a new bike, not at all what I set out to do this morning. The trade in price was upped quite considerably and whilst I am of the old school "if you don't have the cash you cannot afford it" I am sorely tempted by the finance deal offered. So will take a few days to think it through as to whether I look around for a good second hand buy with not such a good trade in or take the deal and buy new. Either way I think my next bike will be a Silverwing.
